I have no interest in holding these, and I thought that the flipping potential was marginal and not worth the effort.

    Anyone else?

Edit: I advise that the faithful adblock the image in FLBuffaloHunter's post. I do not approve of the subliminal advertising. image

I only have interest in the reverse proof. The proof will go for sale almost immediately after grading. Bonus if it is a 70. Slight loss if not.

I will buy the rev. proof of ebay and add it to my other 2 rev. proofs......

I feel many may be of your same opinion and will be dumping the Proof to help pay for the set. If PCGS does decide to label the Proof 10th anniversary First Strike®, there should be potential due to those looking to complete a perfect anniversary set.

image IMO there just aren't as many collectors of platinum as there are of gold. Gold has a mystique about it, the color is different, and platinum is, to coin a phrase "the other white metal".

You got a problem with platinum????

Sorry if I come across as an elitist!!!!!

I had decieded not to buy it then I read the pre sale hype posts and got caught up in the hysteria. logged on to the mint page and pulled the trigger.
Then I thought 30,000 sets is a lot and has a smaller collector base than the 20,000 sets of Jefferson Spouse which are not doing much.

Majority here think the 6 Dollar Coin Set a sure loser. So, I went against the grain and pulled the trigger on that instead.

3 sets cost $100.80. May not have been a smart buy, but it was a cheap fix. image

To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
  • My wife wants one of these sets in the worst way. I watched her agonize over buying one all day yesterday. So, late last night, on my way to bed, I ordered her one set. She does not know it and won't until it arrives. Personally, I would rather put my $$$ towards a bust half or a nice piece of old "dirty" gold.image

Yeah, in fact the plat RP may do more for the price of the gold and silver RPs than they do for the actual plats!

    Ooh, a new twist!

  • I have no interest in platinum and certainly not at the high price on this set.

I want to thank those who have decided NOT to buy this set as it will allow me to buy more. Funny to have this coin set 30K compared to the 1st Ladies coins 20K when I would compare it to the 1995-W 10th Anniversary set with a planned mintage of 35K. What does that $1 Eagle go for in PR69DCAM? Can you say $6,000? How about in PR70DCAM? The latest I heard was around $70,000. Ouch!

Ummm ... you might want to take into account the ratio of the number of SAE collectors to Platinum collectors into your calculations.image

If you haven't ordered one yet, it's getting late in the game. Now, it's just a matter of shipments vs. returns. Unless the Little Rock Desegregation Commems had a last minute rush, I'd say that the RP is now one for the history books.

Who'd a thought it? Only 10,000 1 oz. Gold RPs, and now - 30,000 1/2 oz. Plat RPs.

RYK, it's not too late to buy one on the aftermarket. Who wants those worn down draped bust halves, anyhow.image
