my thoughts, basically: Commissioner should wipe out ML records of offenders, period. No stats, no HOF. Give them the Pete Rose treatment for people already retired. Active players get their fifty game suspension and a bunch of further testing.

Liar. Hope he did not squander all that Yankee money.

To me, it doesn't really matter even if Clemens' lawyers find some piece of evidence that says this was all a misunderstanding. They're all guilty. I'm really p*d. What's really alarming is the vast majority of the info derived in the report was from an East Coast source (for matter of convenience). This means there's a whole wave of players that are not on the list that should be simply because the commission didn't go further. I left baseball in '93 and it wasn't until '04 that I came back to the sport. Knowing that the player's association (hic UNION) obstructed any chance of change along with the total incompetence of Selig, I'm liable to go on another hiatus again.

Saying I didn't do it, and prove it, IMO is an addmission of guilt.

What to do with all those Clemens rookie cards?

All this news is very disappointing to me.

It hurts the game, sends the wrong message to kids, and can be a major health risk.

  • 20 month investigation boils down to threating some errand boys in the clubhouse and a trainer to cough up some names??

Atleast have positive tests before tarnishing players reputations.

Mitchell desperately needed a name like Clemens. Could you imagine 20 months of digging only to hit live television with names like Ron Villone and Larry Bigbie.

  • Clemens denied the allegations in a statement from his attorney, Rusty Hardin.

"Roger has been repeatedly tested for these substances and he has never tested positive. There has never been one shred of tangible evidence that he ever used these substances and yet he is being slandered today," said Hardin.

Nice. How very clintonesque, that is, clemensesque.

Completely lame response by Clemen's lawyer. "Never tested positive", blah, blah, blah. Hey Clemens, if you're innocent then say you never took steroids! We won't believe you, but it's better than saying that you never tested positive.

For one thing the Lawyer said his client was slandered but there is no way Clemens wins a slander suit. There is alot of circumstantial evidence that would prevent that. The standards are very high for slander. I think all Clemens is going to do is spin this by saying I never tested positive and prove he did it. If he never states I never took roids or HGH then you have your answer. He has to say it, not in a lawyer statement, but looking into a camera. If he doesn't then he gets the McGwire treatment which may be a lifetime not in the HOF.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set
  • A slander suit isn't going to help Clemens, it only focuses the problem more brightly on him and I doubt he really wants to give
a detailed deposition and answer a lot of questions. I think he is in a no win situation.

His lawyer does not want to get caught lying -- he can't make a living if he is dis-barred. image

This is a de-facto admission of guilt for Clemens.
  • mitchell said it perfectly....

drug testing doesnt work! investigative research is a way better tool to catch a criminal....

especially when they come up with a test, and implement it, everyone knows and themn switches to something undetectable....

biggest moron in sports Raffy palmeiro for using the cheap out of date stuff and getting nailed....

i am taking this report as fact...therr is no way George mitchell (who has an amazing track record) would risk his name by naming players he wasnt 100% sure about...

this investiagtion was like an old world judge rendering a decison, whatever he finds/says is law.
