Shipment to Italy returned marked "Not Admitted"

Does anyone have any experience with shipments from the US to Italy being denied entry? This was a registered shipment, which was opened, presumably inspected and re-sealed with "Poste Italiane" tape and a label added with a checkbox marked "Non ammesso", which an online translator says means "Not admitted". I've sent coins to Italy before with no problems, and there was nothing different about this shipment aside from the fact that it was registered.

Sounds like a Customs issue. What was it?

How was the customs form marked?

Italian customs are tricky. I swear it just depends on the mood of the one who sees the package.

"Processed planchet" with value declared. I've never had trouble with that method before.

I have shipped coins to Italy using REGISTERED Air Mail on many occasions. Never have had a problem. I suggest you just send it again.

Pardon me for asking, but why not "old mexican silver coin"?

Because "processed planchet" sounds potentially less interesting in case anybody at the post office or customs department is thinking of doing something with the package that they're not supposed to. image

I think that if I were a customs inspector, "processed planchet" would really
catch my attention and make me want to find out what it was.

Maybe so, but that's what it *is*. Once that was confirmed, there shouldn't be a problem getting on with delivery, should there?

Did you marke the customs form "gift"? ( with a value of course but gift nevertheless? )

When you are going to insure a package for big money my PO gets very anal. I was unable to send a S. Korean coin as an antique, had to send it as a souvenir, don't even try collectible or as a coin- won't happen, according to them it will be refused.

That's interesting- I guess the buyer shouldn't have asked for registered delivery... image

No, it was marked "other", with the appropriate valuation.

On the plus side, the buyer has a friend in Minnesota who will be visiting soon, so I can mail the coin there and not have to worry about the Italian post office or customs department. image
