frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,097 ✭✭✭✭✭
Albert Pujols is not in the Mitchell report. I have downloaded it in .pdf format and searched "Albert" and "Pujols". The searched found those words zero times. I searched "McGwire" and that searched came up 46 times.

  • Yep, not in the report.

As an Astros guy I'm not exactly the biggest Pujols fan out there image But for some reason he didn't seem like the type to me. I'm glad he wasn't in the report, if only for your sanity image

That's good news for baseball, as I stated before, if he were using, it would have had to have occurred before his call up, he was too consistent early on with no spike in performance.

What about Thomas? Any info guys?
  • "Among current players I asked to interview were five who have spoken publicly
about the issue. When I did so, I made clear that there was no suggestion that any of the five had
used performance enhancing substances, and I repeat here that clarifying statement. Four of the
five declined. One of them, Frank Thomas of the Toronto Blue Jays, agreed. His comments
    were informative and helpful."

Agreed...very good that Pujols was not in that report.
  • next Frank Thomas entry...

"Players also were quoted in the article, with Frank Thomas of the Chicago White Sox
saying that he’d “love to see testing” and future Hall of Fame member Tony Gwynn of the
Padres calling steroids “the big secret we’re not supposed to talk about"

Thanks. If I remember right Gywnn and Thomas were the few who came to address this in the '90's.

Frank started a "say no to drugs" type campaign in the early '90s when steroids were gaining prominence. I have to wonder if this issue was a driving force in his open comments about drug use for the last 15 years.

  • So basically Mitchell and his firm along with federal help put the squeeze on clubhouse attendants and trainers they could link to steroids through pharmacies/mail and pressured them to cough up names?

Now that the "official" list has been published, it's going to lead to all sorts of speculation as to who might have been left off.

I hear Upper Deck is going to produce an "ON THE JUICE?" checklist card for each team that you can take to a game and check off who you think is juicing and who you think isn't. image

I am not a lawyer, but I would like to be Albert Pujols' attorney about right now. A major media outlet "leaking" his name like that, and it turns out to be false. I would be pretty ticked.

It's great for baseball and Albert Pujols that he's not in the report...but that doesn't mean he never took steroids and/or HGH. If the hitter widely regarded as the best or second best in the game was in the report, that would be very damaging for baseball. As it is, most of the players in the report are retired or close to it.

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Has anyone taken the time to condense the 409-page report into a simple list of names? My connection here at work is slooooooow.

How accurate is this report if Bret Boone isn't in it? Hasn't he almost been about 100% convicted on this?

Just because he wasn't mentioned doesn't mean he's not an offender. No one can be sure in this day and age. However, by not being named in the report he certainly retains the presumption of innocence.

McGwire and Sosa are not named in the report. McGwire is in the papers as not being interviewed. Same with Sosa. I think it will take a few days to clear up who is and who isn't in the report. I will admit that Brett Boone was great and one morning woke up and fell off the face of the earth. Let's face it guys the list is very vague.

You guys who invested in Pujols should thank the gods !!!! You lucky turkeys. Clemens investors are not so lucky. I got screwed by bonds, I am sitting on a ton of wax and cellos. I heard Pujols initially and said uh....oh... those guys that put all that cake into him are gona get screwed...but I held my fire..... chaz

Show where it says that someone, anyone actually saw Tejada take steriods.

Don't worry, I'll save you the time, it doesn't.

No, I do not. He is just a fantastic hitter and the one I enjoy keeping up with and watching the most. There are far more important things in my life. I agree, just because he wasn't in the report doesn't mean that he never took them. However, would you rather be IN the report, or NOT IN the report. With me, I'm just glad he's not in the report. He is just as innocent/guilty as Manny Ramirez or David Ortiz.

That's the problem, you can't reliably test for HGH. There isn't practical test for one that can be adopted. The only way to "test" for it is to apply a blood test almost immediately after the athlete has taken it. Since HGH occurs naturally in the body, the only determinant of whether there's any doping is whether the HGH level is higher than normal, and even then, it's subjective.
