Opinions on Capital Plastics...

I'm considering switching from 2x2's in a folder to all Capital Plastics for some Seated pieces I have.......Does anyone out there have their collection housed in Capital products?? Just wondering if they are a) safe to use for preservation and b) cost effective way to store coins

thanks for any help

I really like CP products and would recommend them to anyone. It's been my experience that they are very safe for coins. The one and only issue I've had with CP holders is that on occasion the holes are not large enough for the coins. This is easily rectified by sanding the hole to a slightly larger diameter. They make most excellent displays and storage.

They make fantastic, high qulity holders. However, I do not believe they are exceptionally cost efficient. Also, if you have a large number of coins in a set display, such as a 1932-1947 Washington quarter display, then the coins may rattle against the plastic when the display is moved and this might impart hairlines. Additionally, Capital Plastics discontinued their wide array of colors (translucent and opaque blue, violet, green, red, orange, etc...) years ago and those displays were the most aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion. Lastly, if you need them to make a custom holder for you then they can do that, too, but the times that I looked into such a task the prices were extraordinary.

The majority of my collection has been housed in Capitol Plastics for nearly 30 years. I have found them to be perfectly safe. My red copper coins have remained red. Blast white silver has not toned and my proof coins have not tarnished or spotted in any way. I have stored them in safety deposit boxes at the bank as well as my own safe at home.

I agree with everything TomB said - I enjoy being on the lookout for "old" style colored Capital Plastics holders, usually for sets.
