I think it is pretty pricey for a yn... what type of profit you shooting for? If you were going for a couple hundered bucks and had locked with modern coin mart sure but now in the open there may be better things for 2k.

  • What exactly do you want advice about? What do you mean by a little new at platinum?

I have decided to sit this one out. One way to eliminate your risk would be to contact John Maben, pre-sell your set to him, and buy for the flip. You also cap your upside, but I am not confident at all that this represents a good flipping opportunity. On the other hand, if you can afford to hold the set, the downside is limited to the melt price of the platinum (about 33% downside), though many would argue that the reverse proof will always sell for a premium to melt.

If you are a yn and want to play flipper with the very pricey platinum set you are on your own.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • If the coins sellout and you don't place an order, you definetly won't lose or gain anything. On the other hand if you do place an order, you will have at least two weeks before the coins ship to cancel the order or in the worst case, return the coins back to the Mint within 30 days of being delivered.

  • I don't recommend this set for flipping. The mintage is way too high. You'll probably wind up loosing money.

  • How are we defining YN here? Are you the ahooka that bought that 1914 1c pr66 star in the other thread, for a $2500 BIN?

I've always understood a YN to be 18 years or younger; 25 is a full-fledged grownup.

Welcome to the Big Leagues and best of luck.
    When in doubt, don't.

  • cheddy ,
i was permanetly disabled at work when i was 19 so now i spend my money and time on coins.
my dad has been an avid collector for 48 yrs but i like hereing other collectors thoughts aswell....
  • Mintage while important, is not the only factor when determining value. Appeal and desirability are just as important. In the case of the 10th anniversary Reverse Proof platinum eagle, the coin finish was specially designed to enhance the entire design and IMO should really make the coin spectacular in the appeal factor. How many will want one is to be seen, which will affect mostly the 69 values but I do believe the 70's will sell for a substantial premium.

A PCGS First Strike® 2006-W gold Buffalo despite having a potential maximum mintage of 300,000 still sells today for 3x it's cost from the Mint and double what the First Strike® 2007-W Buffalo goes for even though the maximum mintage is 200,000 for the 2007-W Buffalo. IMO the PCGS First Strike® PR70 Reverse Proof 10th anniversary platinum eagle appeal and demand will outweigh the potentially high mintage of 30,000 and like the Buffalo will trade for a substantial premium over the non First Strike® designated coin. Also, I doubt all the coins will be shipped by the Mint in time for the First Strike® window, thus limiting the First Strike® population to a fraction of the sets shipped within the 30 day window and submitted to PCGS for grading.

A YN is usually considered to by younger than 18.
Sorry dude, but you're not a YN.
