Grade my Jamestown Commem - Does anything preclude a MS70? Warning: gargantuan photos

I bought this direct from the mint when they were released. Can anyone see anything from the photo that indicates this coin wouldn't make it into a PCGS MS70 slab? Is the strike on the sails good enough? Will the tiny nick on the rim by the woman's elbow be enough to make this a 69?

Thanks!

By the way... I love the shot... Do you mind if I use this photo in my 10,000 US Coin photo thread ?

Sure, just give credit where credit's due. Smaller version added in case you'd prefer it.

I'll give it a 70, unless that is a struck through lint mark either straight up from in between the E and P in E Pluribus on the reverse or below the G in Founding on the obverse

As good as it gets, pendragon!! image
  • The rim looks a little thin around the lower right of the reverse & upper left of the obverse, probably would keep it from grading MS70. Good luck and let us know!

    ttt for the non-nocturnal crowd.
  • The rims don't look centered. Also MS70's have to have killer luster, when you see one next to a 69 you can tell the difference. I don't know how this one looks compared to others. I never seem to get 70's by sending in a single coin. I always want to give the grader context and often put in a coin that is not 70 so they can see what a 69 looks like.

The luster's definitely there, I just had to minimize it to get the exposure right on this coin. The areas of darker and lighter surface you see are due to luster.

I didn't realize that rim centeredness was so important for the grade. image

Either way, it's not a huge price increase and it's a beautiful coin any way you look at it image

When you think you have plucked out a 70, chances are it will come back a 69.

I have submitted countless ASE's and have never received a 70, despite screening.

    Good luck
