Bear, you are gonna want to claw me, but.... it's GUIDANCE image

Sorry, I went to a private military school and spelling was pounded into our heads!!!

    I like that, projectile format.

My post was just a knee jerk reaction to a previous thread where I corrected our loveable Bear on a spelling mistake.(BTW, his reply was priceless)

Charley, your point is well taken.

No more spelling corrections on this end.....paybacks can be hell on this forum.

Send them sealed if you want both of them 10 Anniversary. Or open and just send the reverse proof for that designation. Of course I would never assume anything around here image
  • Goldbully, thank you for your acceptance of my pathetic dry humor. In the spirit of the Boards, I would urge you to correct me any time you like. I appreciate that you understood "projectile" Regards and Respectfully, John Curlis. Bear, I thank you for an outstanding idea. Now, should we uphold the spirit of rebellion, and change this from GUIDENCE to Demand?

I spoke to a representative of PCGS on the phone and via email. Both stated no special designation will be given to these coins, except the reverse proof, which if sent in within the first 30 days of mintage will receive first strike designation. No special designation (first strike or otherwise will be given to the pf).

NGC on the other hand will designate both coins (if still in their unopened state) 10th anniversary designation, and if sent in within the first 30 days, early release designation.

Bear, you know HRH is monitoring your thread.

He's waiting for just the right time to respond.

Mr. Hall is a very smart man....he knows he must be very wary of a Wise Old Bear.

Perhaps he's preparing to present a 'Thursday Two-Coin Tribute' thread in your honor. image

Levinll heard it right - unless something changes tomorrow - there will be no need to keep the sets sealed for submission during the first 30 days. PCGS is not interested in dealing with all the hassle that accompanies sealed boxes - hence the rule.

Bummer. I would be willing to add a special fee of $50 or even a $100 for their hassle with dealing with the sealed sets. Could slow the flow but not completely shut out loyal PCGS submitters.

I guess they are donating all the funds to NGC, unfortunate for us and PCGS both.

BTW - I am not questioning the decision makers on this, BUT, I truly believe (and still do that) the approach I suggested to Ron Guth last year, which was adopted by Ron for 20th Anniv Gold / Silver sets at PCGS was "da bomb"! It resulted in the PCGS 20th Anniv coins having far more value for top quality sets. It made otherwise "boring" coins such as the regular DCAM gold coin or MS Silver Eagle real "winners" in top grade 20th Anniv First Strike holders.

Oh - what could have been with these regular issue DCAM $50 plats from this set......

Does PCGS want the liability of what the 70's in DCAM will probably bring with the 10th Anniversary Label. I think everyone was surprised by what the 2006 W DCAM 70 20th Anniv. Gold brought. Maybe even PCGS. Initially a $10,000 coin and PCGS price guide is now at $6500. I don't know.
  • wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 16,982 ✭✭✭✭✭
PR70 - To the extent, PCGS' decision is partially being driven by"responsibility" to NOT create another valuable coin "label driven", I can certainly respect that position.

  • Since PCGS is in the business of authenticating and grading coins, I can't see why they would not label a coin what it is. They already issue much less meaningful pedigree insert that has little to do with where the coins originates like this one:

  • I don't respect thier decision! They put thier own labels on last years platinum coins. Now that the "REAL" 10th anniversary set is out, and they don't want to deal with returning packages. The #1 grading service is losing points in my book. I really don't want to send my coins to Sarsota,FL just to get thier designation, but I guess I don't have a choice.

They just allowed that 10th Anniversary Label additional Traction.

You can't even get a First Strike on the $50, so it's a plain-jane puke-blue worth melt or less.

The Only thing you can do is cobble a FS $50 together.

EBay has a couple 'on sale' for $4-5K

the suspense of this is killing me...so much to look forward to tommorrow...just think..

as we speak....secret meetings at PCGS on the fate of the Platinum "Label"
12PM sitting in line on the web with the USM....cursing why you don't have a faster connection...
2PM finding out which one of your favorite MLB player is on the "clear"....

and i thought it was going to be another boring day...

Hmmm, I thought I joined the "Collectors Club". I know there has not been a true Forum Poll for a long time (Not talking about the usual Poll users create, I'm talking about the one at the top left corner)

    How about a "Club Vote"???

BTW: Has there ever been a milk spotting problem on the Platinum that might affect this decision??

  • Sounds like they don't want people holding sealed boxes for future grading. Is CU short on cash?
  • If thier short on cash, why not offer the First Strike/ 2007 W 10th Anniversary set. Better yet, leave the coins in original holder and put the sticker like NGC does with GSA morgans. That would be sweet.

The coins can easily be switched out in the mint capsules unless they put a special seal around the entire capsule.
