I like this Ed Wade guy

At least he's not gun-shy like Timmy Poopoo image

Tejada traded to 'Stros

Said it before and will say it again: Trade pitching prospects for established players any day. May come back to haunt but the odds are against it.

looks like a real win-win deal for both sides. The Astros needed some punch and the Orioles need some time to rebuild if they wish to ever contend again in the AL East. I hope for Houston's sake that Tejada is not named in the Mitchell report...and wonder if language to address that was written into the deal?

tejada maybe (probably) be named but so what, he was "outed" by palimero and grimsley already. i'm an oriole fan and he still has hit for great avg and rbi the last 2 years HR down but no real protection in the lineup. i think he'll hit about 20-25 hr and drive in 100 in that lineup next year.

I would assume we took precautions just in case but by the tone of Ed's voice, don't believe it will be an issue.

Our lineup looks absolutely sick on paper:

    CF Michael Bourn
    2B Kaz Matsui
    SS Miguel Tejada
    1B Lance Berkman
    LF Carlos Lee
    RF Hunter Pence
    3B Ty Wigginton
    C J.R. Towles

Now if we could get Roy to pitch every day, it will be all good image

  • Wow, trading 5 prospects for a guy who's hit fewer and fewer home runs each of the last 3 years, whose defensive range has diminished to the point that the orioles had asked him to move to third. Paying him $13 million a year each of the next two years too. Way to go towards making your team irrelevant at the same time sacrificing your future at the same time!

Ed Wade sucks - I am so glad he's no longer in Philly that it's not even funny.

At first, I thought the same thing. Wondering why PHI let him go, yet we picked him up without hesitation.

Who knows what's going to happen... It very well could blow up in our face but at least he's taking chances.

I'm just glad that he's making moves, which is better than doing nothing like Timmy PooPoo.

  • Tejada's best days are several years behind him now. He has very limited range and will give you 20ish HR's with 75-85 RBI's at best.
There are two types of people in this world; those who like Neil Diamond, and those who don't. My ex-wife loves him!!
  • Our lineup looks absolutely sick on paper:

CF Michael Bourn - A guy with 122 games under his belt and a .340 career OBP.
2B Kaz Matsui - A guy who exemplified the tremendous increase of playing in Coors field. Witness the nearly .230 point dropoff in OPS on the road vs. at home in Coors in 2007.
SS Miguel Tejada - sick? Yeah, as in unhealthy. 18 bombs last year, ouch. $13 million salary for the next 2 years is gonna hurt.
1B Lance Berkman - Solid, albeit not overwhelming first base numbers. About .900 OPS but paying him $14 million.
LF Carlos Lee - Another solid player, but a .200 point dropoff in OPS on the road vs. at home is inexcusable.
RF Hunter Pence - Only superstar left on this team, but missing significant amounts of time in his rookie season for injuries is cause for alarm.
3B Ty Wigginton - Solid player.
C J.R. Towles - 14 games played last year, no data.

This team will struggle to win 70 games this year, even with that payroll that will approach $100 million. Hitters don't get on base enough, miserable road/home splits, and a pitching staff not named Oswalt in disarray, this team will be out of it early.

Could very well be the case but would still be 20ish HRs and 70+ RBIs better than Everrett.

Wow, if he keeps up that downward trend, he might average $1 million per homer next season. image

Plus he'll make about 40 more errors than Everitt, too!

Because Wade was brutal for the 9 years he spent in Philly. Zero playoff appearances and constant failure in the GM role. There was a strong push to get the bum out of Philly.
    Did I say he sucked!

    I'll pass on Clement image

And I know Wade's history isn't spectacular.. His teams always folded down the stretch, for whatever reason.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt only because our last GM, Timmy Poopoo, was the worst ever. If he didn't have the title, I would have assumed the position was empty.

Does that make sense or am I just being a Homer?

Rosie O'Donnell dancing topless in a nudie bar would be "making moves" - doesn't mean that the moves are pretty.

Speaking of "moves", Wade seemed to have a knack for making the right move at the wrong time. Just like poker, it's better to make the wrong move at the right time.
