If it has left the mint, it is CIRCULATED!!!!!

At least, that's the tenet I'm going to adopt from now on.

Never FAILS! Especially on a 5 figure coin. I don't care HOW "sweet" it is, you're going to have SOMEONE "think" it's been "worked on."

And in many cases, they're RIGHT.

I just "sold" a nice coin. Oh sure, the books all list the characteristics and yada yada....BUT.... a BUYER..
HAH!

"I think "something" has been done to it."

And in many situations, that is CORRECT! I know a guy who can get a whole BUNCH of "strange" stuff into slabs. And they look GOOD. Certainly no way to tell it THROUGH the plastic. And darned hard ...OUT of it.

Now it might be OK if you are ABSOLUTELY SURE that you AND ONLY YOU will be the one to sell the coin.
But if an heir or assignee has to, just be prepared to face holy hell.

What about STICKERS? Oh...hee hee...sure.... UNPROVEN! "Let's see how the "market" treats em in a few years...yada yada..........blah blah blah"

Do as you wish. But FOR ME.... if I ever.....EVER....cough up 5 or more figures for a coin again, it will be a sweet crusty CIRC! And RARITY alone will be the price factor.

This process is painful.

It's DONE, and to the good, BUT..... NOT WORTH THE HASSLE!

This is MY opinion only. (that's a foolish statement as it is OBVIOUSLY mine alone)

One reason I'm happy and confident in my role as a small-potatoes "wannabe".

I'll stick to the stuff under $500 most of the time, and leave the five-figure pieces to the big boyz.

    I'm glad I can't play with the 5 figure + coins.

OK, easy....A bit of holiday frustration perhaps.

What if the coin is in an ORIGINAL mint bag and NOT even touched by human hands?

True, uncirculated is a variable state with there being gradations to "how" uncirculated a coin might be and thus the numbering system for mint state. Coins start getting marks from the moment they are struck, bounce into the hopper and are transferred through bags, etc. into the distribution system, etc., etc.

    yada yada..........blah blah blah

Truer words have never been spoken...
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • The one that stirs my ire is a coin with a fingerprint getting an MS grade. I don't care who touched it or when...if there's a fingerprint, it's circulated.

Actually, these words might be truer:

    I don't care who touched it or when...if there's a fingerprint, it's circulated.

The OP simply stated that I am sick of the GAMES that surround the CONDITION coins.

And my username would be different if anyone could have spent the effort to correct the glitch in the sigline link in my old one.

Not true. Many years ago, the Goldberg's purchased

some original bags of Morgan Dollars. On the very top

of one bag, was a flawless silver dollar. When Larry showed

it to me, I grabbed the coin and said "It's sold and it's mine!"

I paid 1500 dollars for a coins that at the time in Gem

condition was worth perhaps 400 dollars. Two years later,

I auctioned the coin in a Goldberg Sale and it went for 27,000

dollars. The new owner had PCGS grade the Morgan and it came back

as a MS-69. The coin shortly thereafter was sold for in excess of 60,000

dollars. Miracles really can happen to coins shipped out from the Mint. Perhaps

rarely, but they do happen. As I remember it, this was the first Morgan Dollar graded

    MS-69 by PCGS.
