Bought a mystery lot, sorta haha ~ Updated w/pics

CladiatorCladiator Posts: 18,086 ✭✭✭✭✭
Saw this one hit the bay this morning. Piss poor photo and doesn't even have a pic of the reverse! image

But hey, for five bucks what the hell. I'll update with pics and attribution when it arrives. There are 18 die marriages for 1829, anyone want to hazard a guess as to which one this is? I do believe this is the least amount of money I've ever paid for any half dime.

    Hmm. Nice aerial shot.

Worth a gamble, at that price, I guess.

Definitely a good buy! Also, I'm very glad the unit was stored in a smoke free home! image

I've purchased silver coins from non-smoke-free homes and they sure do reek image
  • I once bought a silver tray from a smoker's home, and I could not believe how it smelled - it was amazing that a piece of metal could be so saturated with the smell. We had to store it outside for a couple of weeks before the metal stopped smelling.

  • Okay...... first off, I took a couple quick pics still in the 2x2 (with accompanying 'white fluff')...

So - 1st is Sellers pic........................................................... Actual coin:
    imageimage

Seller's description: "a 1869 Three Cent Nickel in Very good Condition in protector coin case over this unit!! 2 small nicks on back outer ring of coin at 2 and 7 oclock but otherwise in GREAT GREAT Shape"

Bigger pics (still in 2x2) with traditional desk lamp:

  • CladiatorCladiator Posts: 18,086 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sorry Raq, gonna have to wait a while. I got home and the coin waiting for me was a different half dime image
  • What?!?! Jeeze..... the USPS SUCKS!!!!
  • Cladiator.... Did the mail come??????

    Here ya go Raq image

Coin arrived today and is imaged below. It's an 1829 LM5 in "scudzy" condition. Looks like it took a couple punchs to the obverse that dented through to the reverse to cause some abnormal wear "bumps". So, not retiring on this one but hey, for $5 it's still a half dime!!! image

Raq you definitely made out better on our gambles. BD, good guess on the LM5 image

    image
  • Well..... that's because I paid out 333 times face value..... you only shelled out 159.8 times face image
