$2500 after Jimmy Carter style double digit inflation under a democrat president.

Such a large difference of opinion , I had no idea gold was as high as it is right now , the last time I checked , which was about 5 yrs ago I guess, I think it was around 4-5 hundie /oz .

I also did not know that our currency was no longer backed gold .
  • The electonics industry will need/use it less due to rising costs, they find a sub or just a different way to make proccesors, etc, period. The industry vaults up supplies however. $860 (not accounting for inflation, using today's dolla).

<< <i>Just for fun, what is your guess of the price of gold, in USD, for January 1st, 2010.

    I'll say $1850/ounce >>

    $350 a ton.

I know of several sites that might help you out with your prediction of $1850/ounce and you can have some "fun" with them, I just don't like your commodity state of mind in the coin forums.

    Pork bellies anyone?

Coins are not made from porkbellies, Ray. They would most likely smell within a day of striking, unless of course they were made from pork jerky.

Because the economy should recover some by then and the dollar will be stronger I'll say $672/OZ

Coins are also made from copper, zinc, silver and several other metals.
I'm not here to predict what my "coins" will be worth in the near future, I like the designs and history....put a price on that.

It looks like the central banks believe they can hold this level.

A steep sell off and gradual recovery are likely. I think it will break $1000 and settle back a little by the end of next year.

<< <i>$1350. It would be neat if someone remembers to resurrect this thread on Jan 1, 2010. image >>

    I've resurrected this thread.

    Some very good guesses.

Mine was a bit too high but I'm sure it will get there eventually.

Official Kitco Jan 1 2010 close was $1096.50 USD per ounce.

Actually correct! But since time travel was involved, perturbations bifurcated the continuum and spawned the timeline that we are currently in. THANKS, CHRIS!
