  • Very image idea. Maybe we can all pick up a coin or two from your rejects! I guess I will have to look around and see what I can entice you with for 75 bucks... Only one coin? Would you maybe consider a couple to make the dollar amount?

I like your challenge ideas, Jim. (And pendragon, who I think started it over on BST). Sort of an auction with a twist.

You might recall being the one who won my $50 challenge, that one time.

I will see what I have.

That one ain't a nickel- it's a silver 5c piece, and to each his own. I like the colors on it, even if I am not that crazy about the toning pattern itself. I've definitely seen uglier. And those colors are wild.

Dang, that Trajan denarius is as nice as mine!

(Edit- no... a little bit nicer, perhaps!)

Mine looks much nicer in hand than in my scan, though. It is quite brilliant and very sharp and I am quite fond of it.

For eye appeal alone, it is one of my better Romans (you'd have to see it in person).

HIS, however, has some very nice toning to it, and really sharp detail! Sweet!

I would call his just the tiniest bit superior to mine except mine probably came off newer dies. His was obviously struck on some dies that had seen some action.

I didn't pay anywhere near $75 for mine, I don't think, but then again, I got a terrific deal on it. (Thanks, Don!)

My coin here is not for sale- just for comparison purposes with the one above.

This one IS for sale, though for 75 bucks, it's a break-even proposition for me at best.

And I offer it to you, basically at cost, only because you won MY old $50 challenge and sold me a nice coin.

If push comes to shove, I doubt I'll have any trouble moving this locally for more than $75, so if it sells, OK, and if not, that's OK by me, too.

Numismedia trends on this coin is $82 in F12. 2008 Redbook says $85. Is this one F12, or just a helluva nice, orginal VG10? Your call. I say it's a "market" F12, if not a strong example for that grade. For a VG10, though it's gotta be at the top rung. This is a very popular grade for Barber halves. I should post this to see what the specialists have to say.

There's that subtle, faint rim bump that disturbed the toning on the rim by star 13. There's also a little peckmark on the eagle's tailfeathers. I mention these to be fully candid, but I wouldn't call either enough to make this a "problem" coin. You cannot deny this piece has superior eye appeal for a circulated Barber half. I paid $70 for it (maybe plus shipping), so by the time I pay shipping to you, I barely break even (and PayPal fees might put me a tiny bit in the red).

Update: I put up a poll. Just for fun, let's see if the Litesiders throw rose petals at it, or rotten tomatoes...
