Does this look like shill bidding to you all?

RampageRampage Posts: 9,489 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was just poking around eBay a bit and saw a coin that looked really familiar, as if it has been listed some times over and over. So, I start looking, and sure enough. Same coin, multiple listings. Same winning bidder for the last two searchable times.

Here is the coin currently listed: current

Here is the same coin that closed December 2: Winning bidder: wdipickle

Here is the same coin again that closed December 9: Winning bidder again is wdipickle

Here is another example:

A 1903 Micro-S being going on now: 1903S

Same coin closed December 9:
wdipickle won this one, too

Here is wdipickle's bid history: bid history

It looks like V.B. Coins was shilled. Isn't he a forum member?

So, I was also looking to see where to report this to and have not found it. Can someone please report?

If it appears I am overreacting, please do say. I have been known to blow things out of proportion.

Thanks, Richard.

I absolutely know that seller...He's outbid me a few times on some Morgans that I really wanted image

    He's a flipper....Cherrypicks a coin and re-sells it right away, sometimes.

Good detective work, btw...you may be on to something image

I know that seller quite well, too. He, too, has outbid me numerous time before. Most of my cherries were for Hot Lips and also the Micro-S Morgans. image I had no idea until this that he was such a scamster.

Btw, I have beat him to the punch on cherries before, too. image

Why would someone put a high opening bid on an item and then shill it. Does not make much sense to me.

(disregard, I guess he has a high opening bid now but not when first listed)

Dont know the buyer or the seller. So I cant say much on a personal level. But by the looks of it I would assume the same thing. They are certainly either:

    A. eating a huge amount of listing and FV fees

    or

    B. going to need a new schilling account soon since they are filing mutliple NPB claims on wdipickle.

I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

Look closer dbldie55. The two pre-scarfaces he opened at $9.99 each. Then, his lovely shill bidder came in, entered high bids and retracted, then bid them up again. Check out these two comments below. One is from one auction, and the other is from the second auction.

    Number 1:

    wdipickle( 9 ) Retracted: US $216.00
Explanation: Entered wrong amount Bid: Dec-09-07 12:03:16 PST
    Retracted: Dec-09-07 12:13:06 PST

    Number 2:

    wdipickle( 9 ) Retracted: US $348.00
Explanation: Entered wrong amount Bid: Nov-29-07 22:57:05 PST
    Retracted: Nov-30-07 10:17:27 PST

Looks like he won the same coin twice, but seller is still selling it - and after dipickle left positive feedback?

  • I see both players are located in Ohio, seller in Cuyahoga and the bidder in Strongsville, could it be they know eachotherimage

I drive further than that to work every day. Wonder if the seller does? Puts you on different ISP's in most cases and that is about the only way eBay has of tracking blatent shilling.
