Crackin' Out--I'm a Barbarian!

Okay, in response to Bear's Coin Drop thread, I took a pair of pliers and twisted, mangled, and cracked out a 1976 Proof Set. I feel like such a criminal. It's an evil, good feeling. I know all of you are expert mutilators of official Mint packaging, but it was my first time. Is this considered a right of passage? Anyone want to meet for a beer? I'm buying--with some proof coins.

I just got my first good laugh for the day.

Thanks it was a bad day at work.
I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

Make sure you wear ANSI rated impact goggles just to be safe. You can get 'em for under $10. While I admit to closing my eyes and turning my head in years back, it's not the recommended method, especially when pounding with a hammer. I still remember one dealer back in the 80's who could crack 'em by hand just by tossing them on the floor along the edge.

Just the other day, I got a nearly pristine 76-S half from the bank. Was it yours?

Ha! No, not yet, but this makes me wonder: all you dealers, who crack out millions of mint and proof sets, do you ever just spend any of 'em or are you trying to sell every single coin?
