On the TE pic, if the dot was missed the E doubling looks like what you see on the 21-D VAM-3A. The legend font though does give away a D reverse used only in 1921.

OK. Let's keep this rolling. Here are 4 reverse details for the only VAM to use this reverse. It is a good one as it tests whether people look at their VAMs beyond verifying from details in Leroy's descriptions. There are often many other interesting things he leaves out.
