1921-P VAM-26 Wide Reed Tripled Chin

So I couldn't wait till I got to a coin shop to continue. I decided to play with a few common date Morgans from my safe. I guess when I bought them a few years ago I wasn't paying attention for wide reeding. Pics posted match pretty close to idintifiers listed on VAMworld page for VAM 26. The only one I am not so sure on is the tripled chin. I might say doubled but not sure about triple. So what do you think? Is this the correct call on which varity this coin is?

I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

TTT for the morning crowd. I would really like a second opinion on this to see if I'm correct.

  • Nope, it's not a VAM-26....none of the pup's match and the chin on yours is smooth. Easiest way to tell is to take another year Morgie and hold them together and look at the reeding.
This is a very dumb ass thread. - Laura Sperber - Tuesday January 09, 2007 11:16 AM image

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.

The reeds are definitely wide reeding. Had it sandwiched between two other 21 P's to verify that before I started the search for which VAM it was. And the other three pics seem to have some of the markers. I was a little confused by the chin part also since it doesnt look triple chin but I see some die polishing in the area's they say that I should.

Yup. Not VAM 26. Most of the diagnostics for VAMs 25 through 29 are die polishing lines. VAM 25 has them on Liberty's temple. VAM 27 in the lower part of the cap in the ribbon. VAM 28 in the eagle's left wing, VAM 29 in the area where Liberty's jaw meets the neck near the hair. VAM 13 and 29 both have tripled stars. but VAM 13 has a polishing line the field by the 17th berry on the reverse (right wreath top inside). If it's a 16 berry coin (D2 reverse), then you suck, because it's a VAM 44.
