I'm not used to seeing so much chainmail and facial detail on Britannia.

I got red-X the first time, too, but on reload the pic showed fine.

Refreshed/reloaded 3 times and still a big red X in a box! I now have DSL via sattelite as compared to my old dial up connection. I'll try again tomorrow and see what happens... I have no reason not believe it is a beauty though from your other posts...

I guess I was able to view the pic on subsequent tries because I copied and pasted the URL into a new window when it didn't work at first.

Now that seems to work. I'm still hacked at the fact it won't generate each time. Maybe they are trying to discourage me linking a 500k image.image
  • Very nice,
    sharper than my BU 73.
    I also had to copy

Wyon and the Royal Mint re-used the portrait on this (and other) colonial issues. Nice coin, Mac.

Both obverse and reverse really tanked in quality beginning with the 1878, but that is a very nice coin indeed!!!!

    That's a nice '73. From Colin Cooke?

Yes, this does happen to be lot#138 (Low 3 in date) from the CC Sale.

The color is true to the actual coin and the obverse fields are very "hard" and semi-PL. The reverse is a little less so semi-PL, but both sides exhibit nice cameo effects. Dies are lightly clashed as can be be seen mostly on the reverse.

You know Mac that is the type of coin that will really be a keeper with tremendous upside. Seems his collection (CC's - God rest his soul) was dispersed to some worthy corners. I got a couple of the ex- EA Johnston coppers from that one as well.

A lot of Colin's bronze Vicky's are absolutely amazing. The 2 I picked up from his sale are dazzlers too, but I have yet to provide a suitable picture of either. The lustre blows away my camera's abilities.

Mine too! Contact Mark Goodman (mgoodm3) on this forum, and send to him for images (his real specialty is copper - he shot my 1862 blazer farthing). They are $10 per image plus your return postage. I would have to spend over $2000 for his type of cam, macro lens, etc. Cheaper to let a pro shoot 'em, plus I just dropped a little over $200 on a new Canon 850 IS which is in the stocking for the wife. Maybe I can borrow it some time. image
  • Had no problem seeing the pics the first time through--gorgeous vicky--this is priced at 1200 according to krause--is this in line with actual cost today?

What edition of Krause? Anyway, the 2007 Spink has the 1873 valued at £95 (roughly $191 as of today). However, the new 2008 Spink is just out, so I'm not sure whether they've revalued.

Oh yeah, I'd buy hundreds of gem red 1860s-1870s farthings at the Spink prices............except the wife would then own more than half of everything whilst I made a cardboard box for my home. image

Not to worry, there aren't very many red gems out there. image

Stayed at 95 pounds in the '08 catalog(ue). Some of the coppers continue to be undervalued as you pointed out Mac. I have some favorite 1/4s and 1/2s. The pennies tend to be a bit high though.
