Specifically Mexican (Republican Cap and Ray) 8 Reales -> Mike Dunigan and J.B. Parker "Resplandores" is a great reference

Pre-Republic, there are a number of references for Spanish Colonial 8 Reales, such as "Columnarios", "Compendium de Ocho Reales", Cayon's "Money of Spain" just to name a few.
