If all "slabs" looked the same....

would you still do cross overs?

I have crossed one ngc to pcgs because I like the look of the pcgs holder.
I am sitting on two more to cross, but if they used the same holder as pcgs, I wouldn't make the cross

What say you?

If ANACS still did the small slabs, I'd cross everthing to them - I love those slabs.

  • I believe copper and silver coins look a half a grade better in a PCGS holder than in NGC. I always felt that way, but when I switched to digital photography I noticed that the camera seemed to be able to focus on coins in a PCGS holder much more easily and more clearly than those in an NGC. If PCGS coins look better to an objective camera lens then it makes sense that they also do to our imperfect eyes.

NGC could become so much more competitive if they would just change their holder - or even offer it as an option.

Agree. The other top tier slabs are larger than they need to be.

I liked the smaller ANACS slabs as well. And to go even further I always thought that a slab the size of a 2x2 would be killer. Something like the Capital Plastic holder. Just have the date and mintmark below with the other irrelevant stuff (grade, number, company along the edge). I would probably have the date and mintmark again along the top edge for easy retrieval from the box though.

I think there would still be a lot of folks that would cross coins based on market value due to a particular brand's acceptance and reputation...
