What is It / Jeanne d'Arc Item

I came across this item on ebay and since Jeanne d'Arc is a personal hero(ine), I had to bid. And won!
However, though listed as a medal, it is not. But what is it? It appears that it was sawed off something. The mark on the back might offer a hint, but I cannot make much of it. I did some googling and I am fairly certain that Bourg refers to Bourg en Bresse. My certainty is based on the shield to the left, with its distinctive cross and the clear indications that the two halves woud be different colors. In other words, the shield of Bourg en Bresse. Any input, anyone?

I can't identify it but I'll tell you, you come up with the most interesting items... image

  • It certainly is a fascinating piece! Looks like it was mounted on something at those three points on the reverse that are arrayed like a triangle. I'm thinking it's probably
non-numismatic and more of a decorative arts sort of item.

If it were mine, I'd send my snaps with an inquiry to Rich Herzog at exonumia.com.
He's been pretty helpful to me before, but I've been a customer....never know if that
    would make a difference.

What do you make of that word at the lower right on the Rx? "Firen...?

Looks like "Firenze" = Florence. The arms match.

Well, isn't that a hoot. You're right. So why would the arms of a French city in the eastern heartland be joined with the arms of Florence? And what association would this have, if any, with Jeanne d'Arc?

I'm thinking; some foundry with offices in both French Bourg and Italian Florence.

Fascinating. I have no idea, but it is really neat.

I have dug up things with those three attachment points like that, before. Can't really tell you what it was mounted on or a part of, though.

Very cool medal! I've tried some searching, but without turning anything up image Interesting mount points, too. What is the diameter?
