For 2001s, I got about 8 from 40 mint sets. 1999, and to a lesser extent, 2000 was tougher to get 67s. I did get a 67 VT-D from a roll, but I think that's my only 67 from many rolls searched.

I recommend buying them already slabbed. Tulving sells complete sets.

BAGS ARE A WASTE OF TIME! If you think I was yelling- I am. I have my own horror story regarding sifting through a bag of Mass. quarters (loosing $80.00+ by dumping them all into a 'CoinStar' machine).
    Never again!
Actually prices are coming down on eBay for some of these. Altough I recently picked up a NY in PCGS MS68 (I think it's going to be a sleeper in the series) I also won an auction on eBay for a PCGS MS67. I was pleasantly surprised the auction closed at $65.00. My max was more than that.
I know the other quarters (minus the 1999's of course) are also getting cheaper.

I think your best shot at making these coins would be to look through Mint Sets, however, if you value your time you may actually be better off simply buying them already graded.

Braddick, I am still confused why you chose to lose money on face value coins. Why didn't you just take them to the bank? Doesn't your bank accept money for deposits?

I have always been curious of this.

  • How does Tulving do it, do they buy 100's of mint sets and grade the best??What do you do with the remaining coins??

If you have a job, I would not recommend wasting your time, money, or eyesight on trying to make your own. Plently of dealers are willing to sell these pieces at fair prices. Best bets that I know of: Rick Tomaska (Ultimatecameo), Mitch Spivak (Wondercoin), Tad (Supercoin), or Jim Barlow (The Kennedy Center in Norfolk, VA but not on this Board), or www.cameocc.com. Tulving already mentioned.

    Cheers

  • For sources, you can cross me and Jim Barlow off that list. I stopped submitting them about a year ago, and no longer carry them unless I happen across one as part of another deal. Jim Barlow no longer carries them either the last I knew.

As far as making them yourself, it clearly isn't worth it from a financial perspective, particularly if you'd be happy with coins 1 less than the highest-graded. These are often made in over-abundance by submitters going for the "money" grades and sell for very little compared to the costs and effort in finding and submitting them.

For example, check out this 20-coin complete year set for $295. (I don't know anything about this seller, BTW).

But if you want to do it for the thrill of the hunt, go for it! You never know, and it's fun -- for the first few thousand coins anyway. image
  • Thanks for all the in put,I'm having second thoughts about this!!I may try one submission, just to get this out of my system. THANKS!!!
