Poker Legend Chip Reese Died at 56 in Las Vegas

Atlanta, GA 12/04/2007 10:11 PM GMT (FINDITT)

Poker legend Chip Reese died in his sleep Tuesday in a Las Vegas hospital room. Reese was 56.

The cause of his death is unknown, although it was said that he exhibited pneumonia-like qualities.

In the course of his career, Reese, whose real first name is David, garnered almost $3.5 million in winnings and three World Series of Poker bracelets, with his final victory assuring his place in poker history.

In 2006, he took down the first-ever championship in the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. tournament, the largest buy-in event in the history of the World Series of Poker.

Reese was also inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.

  • Who did he play for in college?
There are two types of people in this world; those who like Neil Diamond, and those who don't. My ex-wife loves him!!

    Sad news. image

Reese graduated from Dartmouth and was on his way to grad school at Stanford when he was sidetracked by Las Vegas. Pretty smart guy I imagine.

By all accounts he was a great guy. Probably difficult to be liked while you're taking people's money.

  • Sidetracked, indeed
    stopped in Vegas
    played a small tourney & won 40K
which was nice money for one days work back then
    come to think of it
    it's not bad even today
of course he put law school on hold
    permanently
smart move as he won over $100 million playing cash poker games

youngest player to get in the Poker HOF as well
