Good deal on Canadian Large Cents

I was able to score 228 Canadian Large Cents ranging from 1859 to 1920 and one roll of 1947 Candian small cents today. I wil post images when the camera stops being a pain in the butt!

If you only knew. When you take the flash off you have to be VERWY VERWY STILL, or the picture looks like crap. Not having a tripod it makes it hard. I fi leave the flash on the pictures are hella bright.... Anways I am not a camera expert so taking them is a paint but Im working on it...

Well here is one pic of the whole lot. Hard to see anything real close up to see the condition but you get the idea. Anyone want to take a guess on the price???? image

UHmmm.... A nickel each or less.

It looks like most could use a good soaking in acetone to start with, any good dates or grades?

    Here are the dates:
    1859 1876 1881 1884 1888 1892 1893 1896 1897 1898 1899 1900 1901 1902 1903 1904 1905 1906 1907 1908 1909 1910 1911 1912 1913 1915 1916 1917 1918 1919 1920

Most are in about fine condiditon maybe extra fine for some. A few would score extremely fine while others would hit poor and good grades. It runs the spectrum with them. I'm a bit hesitant to put them in any cleaner. Don't wanna ruin them.
  • Acetone will eat up any PVC (plastic) that is present (looks like a green goo) and also paint, oil and other unnatural things on the coins without hurting the toning or actually cleaning the coin, just removes a lot of the stuff that doesn't belong there... There are a number of posts here about how and when to do an acetone bath. I just did a quick search and can't find them so maybe some other soul can post a link to one of the articles...

BTW, welcome to the forums and to the way of the darkside or if you prefer the greyside...

I appreciate the warm welcome. I'll have to look around for the acetone post. I love American coins but I also like my Candian and absolutely RELISH my German coins image
  • German? Ho now! In that case I want to really extend a major image as long as you aren't bidding against me, or buying things out from under me... image

I was going to send you a PM (private message) but you have not chosen that option... I collect the German Empire, Weimar Republic and Third Reich by date and mint. The state of Prussia by date and mint and all the states by type before unification then by date and mint after unification. I cut off at the end of WWII, though I do have a few occupation pieces. What are your German collecting interests?

  • Welcome to the forum--I traded two 2-1/2 dollar gold pieces for a group of 375 canadian large cents. There were many au and xf in the group along with the 1859 d-p #2 in xf. my gold was in xf. How about $200 for your group? Any varieties in there?

First, MY ASU, is currently seeking their third national championship (Oh and yes we beat Michigan to image ). Semifinals are friday night then off to the Championship game again!!! Second, I collect mainly Third reich coins but many other German coins seem to find their way into my home. I have a really nice Third Reich album that I should take a pic of and post, you would drool.... image

First off let me say that by posting this I am in no way attempting to insult or put down anyone. I hope no one takes offense to the pictures and understands that I in no way condone what was done by Hitler (merely history folks). Thanks.....
I bought this album from an older gentleman at a coin show. Exceptionally nice guy and gave me a great deal on the whole album and all the coins. You may see some of the prices on the coin slips, I did not pay anywhere near the amount that he was originally asking. I got a great deal on a nice looking album and set of coins. The last two coins are Czech 100 and 50 Koruns, nice silver coins. There are 1, 2, 5, 10, 50 Reischpfennigs, 2 marks, 5 marks, 10 marks, and many other coins that were issued during the third reich. All of these coins would be vf and most would grade upward of XF to AU. Absolutely beautiful coins.

congrats on playing for the championship! my post was tongue-in-cheek, being an Arizona State alum. is your ASU Division II or I AA? congrats on the Michigan win early on, everyone across the country got a good chuckle at Michigan's expense for that one. please share your Third Reich stuff, i'd like to see it!

Appalachian State Univeristy, Division II (FCS). I get that alot from Sundevil fans so I'm used to it! I posted some pics above in regards to some of my Third Reich coins but nothing close up. One day, when I get this freaking camera figured out, I'll make some up close pics for you guys!
