Anyone have a HP Scanner? Help needed........

I have a HP Scanjet 3970 scanner. All of a sudden I can't open HP Director. I tried reinstalling the software and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

It's truly a f'd up program but if it is working normally, it's quite good. What I have found is that you have to close all the processes. Even if you uninstalled the program, some of the processes might still be running. I usually close any process that begins with the letters "hp" when I have that problem and then try and start Director. There is also a program called "hpqdirec.exe". This opens to the scan menu directly as well.

I've heard of this problem before. Check their website or do a google search.. Willing to bet something comes up.

I had that issue, tried reintalling it, and it said something about the print driver being wrong/?? I broke down and bought a new scanner, NO ISSUES!!! Please let me know if you find out anything about this

I would go in and do the uninstall. Either via "Start -> Settings ->Control Panel ->Add / Remove Programs" or see if there is a built in uninstall via the HP menu in Programs.

I would also unplug the usb cable from the PC.

    Restart computer
After it's rebooted, you can do Ctrl+Alt+Del and make sure there isn't any processes called HP(something), if there are, end those.

You can also do "Start -> Run -> msconfig" and hit enter. Go to the "Startup" tab and look for anything with an HP name. Uncheck the box.

Reinstall the HP Director software and see what happens.

Plug your printer back in and cross your fingers.

Well, here's the answer (probably). I just downloaded the new version of Internet Explorer. Apparently the newer versions of IE are incompatible with HP Director. Seems as if uninstalling IE7 and going back to the old version may do the trick.

keep us posted. I kept the old scanner since I figured it was some silly software problem, I have NO problem having 2 scanners, put people to work scanning stuff!
  • I just got the new version of Explorer too. I haven't tried my scanner since. We'll see.

Uninstalled IE 7 and the scanner now works like a charm.
