Pettitte Will Play For Yankees In '08
According to the Houston Chronicle, Andy Pettitte has informed friends and teammates that he will pitch for the Yankees in 2008. The Yankees have been informed as well.
This is a great news for the Yankees, who gain some leverage in the Johan Santana negotiations.

And Clemens? Yup, I sure hope he plays for NYY again!

Good! Its fun to watch Clemens break down in pinstripes.
I thought maybe the Yankees were finally learning that lesson. Guess not.
<< <i>For all the post-season talk about the Yankees needing to emphasize more youth and cut the payroll of their high-priced veterans to develop more talent (particularly pitching), the 2008 Yankees will apparently look almost the same as the 2007 Yankees, if not older and more expensive. That's even more true if they give up some good young arms for Santana.

I dont at all see where Yanks have given up on their young talent. Sometimes you trade some depending on your needs. Yes, they must be careful not to fall in the traps of the past. But this is Johan Santana, possibly the best pitcher in the game today. For catcher, who available was better than Posada? No one. Mariano still has it so you're not going to just let one of the best closers of the game go. Yanks opted to keep Abreu. Just look at his stats and you will understand why. Though he is shy of the wall, his defense is solid and has a cannon of an arm.
But as for Pettite...they guy had a 4.05 ERA in the AL East. Thats not too shabby! Pettite was one of the better lefties on the mound last year. Every team, including the Yankees need a very good left handed starter. Thats would Pettite gives. As for the young guns, you cant expect 3 rookie pitchers to carry a team to the playoffs. They are still developing. Pettite offers that experience those young pitchers need. It's just niave to think that Pettite wouldnt still be a top pitcher on any major league club.
Even the Red Sox know how valuable it would be to have Santana and that is why they are offering Elsbury and one of their top young pitchers. Why not the same sentiment for the Red Sox as the Yanks? Who cares about history. This is now.
It's probably very unlikely Clemens will be playing in pinstripes next season. If he does pitch, it will probably be as an Astro while Red Sox fans continue to drool wanting him back in Boston for one more year. Deny it all you want but last year you could see most Red Sox fans ready to hump a new Clemens Red Sox jersey...then when he announced he was going to be a Yankee, they were ready to burn him at the stake.

Forget about any Red Sox fans drooling over the hopes of getting Clemens back for one more year, the guy will NEVER be welcomed back in a Boston uniform.

Because you say "who cares about history," but I think it's relevant here. Boston has won two of the last four championships and the Yankees are making early exits. It's working for the Sox and not for the Yankees.
They say that the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Yes, 4.05 isn't bad in the arms race known as the AL East, but I"m not sure it's worth paying many millions for.
Clemens? No way unless he works for squat which he won't do.
That ought to keep Andy happy, and he'll probably pitch better.
