These coins are fairly commonly found in Vietnam, often in atrocious condition after years of being exposed to the tropical environment. My KM 2.1 is barely recognisable.

That website has been around a long rime. I'm not sure some may not be more recent strikes from original dies. Art to some Eastern cultures includes counterfeit or fantasy pieces, but these don't look to be fakes.

I can remember an instance when I was in Vietnam fingering a coin and wondering why it was so awful-looking when it was only a couple of years old. Don't remember the coin, just the impresssion-circa 1969, Da Nang harbor.

As for the coin.. My 2006 catalog lists it at $200 in UNC, but I have no clue if that is realistic or what. I am totally unfamiliar with this series. I imagine, though, that by now there are probably counterfeits out there if it is indeed at such a price level. You might want to give the webmaster of that site an email asking his opinion.

Not sure if this will help, but about a year ago I bought a 1946 1 Dong PCGS MS-63 for $158.
Clad are often harder to find a choice condition compared to precious metals.
