<< <i>The known pop of the Jefferson MEL is 800. Almost 500 of them are MS66 or better. I understand there are MS68s but I cannot verify it. My MEL is on it's way back to where it cometh from. >>

There is 1 MS68 but I still cannot believe that with a population of 883 coins and still rising that the lowend coins in this group are $2,000 coins.

I stand behind my statement that the Jefferson Presidential Dollar is the MOST over prices coin of the series! Stuff like this certainly cannopt be a Good thing.

This coin has definitely been overhyped and over marketed.

I can totally understand the fact that when the MS67's came out that everybody was willing to fork over big bucks since the Adams and Washington coins were very low pop coins. But to continue this charade is simply rediculous. The populations simply do not warrant it.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    Lee,

You are correct in part. I do open a lot of P Cases, that are shipped into me.

BUT, who says P cases are the ONLY cases with MELS?

Washington Dollars came in both P & D Boxes !!

The Jefferson MEL should honestly sell for $100 at MS65, $300 at MS66. $900 at MS67 and $3,000 at MS68. If you want to talk low President error pops then look at the 2007-D weak edge Madison with a total of 34 coins for both sides. image

Perhaps he is just repeating what he was being told by the previous guy, and so on and so forth. Also, they may not be reading much to the contrary, because the truly "great" Presidential coins seldom hit ebay at all.

Not Nearly as rare as teh POP 4/3 Weak Edge letter Pos A Washington FDI listed here: Auction Links

That's correct for the FDIs only but it's different when you look at the total coins. Also a few of these Madisons might disappear making the MS65 non-FDI A pop 3/0 and B pop 5/0. Also the Washington non-FDI MS65 weak A pop is 2/1 with a total pop of 9 for a total of 17 coins in this variety.

The current FDI+non-FDI Madison D weaks are
    Position A pop 12 (possible 8)
    Position B pop 19 (possible 15)

So the Madison has some major potential still. image

    Madison D Weaks

    FDI POPS

    Pos A - 2/65 4/66 Total Pop 6
    Pos B - 3/65 8/66 Total Pop 11

    NON-FDI Pops

    Pos A - 2/63 1/64 3/65 Total Pop 6
    Pos B - 2/63 4/64 5/65 Total Pop 11

    Why make coins disappear?
You might as well get some grading money back on the lower graded sets.
The values are not going to go up more on the 65 or 66 sets with or without the 63 and 64 coins.

    Total Sets availiable are
    FDI
    2/65, 4/66 sets = 6 Total Sets

    Non FDI
    2/63, 1/64, 3/65 sets = 6 Total Sets

It all depends on which ones a collector wants and on what grade is important to his/her set.
