How does "dinged" corners affect a PSA grade?

Now, the old skool grading scale (Beckett) says that:

slightly dinged corner = fuzzy corner (one=NRMT, two/three=EXMT, four=EX)
dinged corner = slightly rounded corner (four=VG, not sure about less than that)

Anyhoo, it seems that the PSA scale (which seems to have become the "gold standard" for grading today even outside this forum) only mentions corner wear, but not dinged corners. For example, let's say you have a slightly dinged corner that you can only see by holding it up to the light (but otherwise the corner is nice and sharp), is that considered a more serious flaw, less serious, or about the same as a corner with a "touch" of wear?

When you say "ding", do you mean that it looks like the card got dropped on it's corner?

If one ding extends 2 mm into the card, it might get slammed down to a 6. If it's less than 1 mm, you're probably looking at a PSA 8 or lower. PSA 9s shouldn't have any "dings."

Basically, if you can move it around with your fingers, PSA 8 or less.

I don't know about "moving it around with my fingers"; the kind I'm refering to are definetly within 2 mm and is such you have to hold it up to the light. I have a few commons from sets here and there that have one dinged corner and was wondering how that impacts condition in this PSA age. 8? 7?

I know nothing about the grading standard on a ding corner. I always wonder which is more important 50/50 centering or four sharp corners. Here is an example of one ding corner.

How would this lower left corner ding affect the grade on this card, Thanks

if the ding is noticeable to the naked eye the erving will pull an 8.

    nice centering.

    Thanks,

My experience has been the same as above. If the corner looks nice to the naked eye, and assuming everything else checks out (i.e., centering and the like), you should have an almost guaranteed 8. If the "ding" or "push" (whatever you want to call it) can be picked up through magnification, the chances are slim to none you will pick up a 9. However, I must admit that I have seen some 9s that, upon close inspection, have corners a little less sharp than I would like. With those examples, the cards did seem to have exceptional centering.

    Note the 9 definition though:

"A PSA Mint 9 is a superb condition card that exhibits only one of the following minor flaws: a very slight wax stain on reverse, a minor printing imperfection or slightly off-white borders. Centering must be approximately 60/40 to 65/35 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse."

It does not mention corner wear and should mean you need four razor corners. However, I have seen some 9s that have very slight issues with one corner and still receive a 9 (again fantastic attributes otherwise).

So, boiling it all down in my mind:

--Slight corner ding or push= no better than an 8 UNLESS the centering is so strong, and gloss so blazing, that the eye appeal can bump it up to a 9. In my book, if a I need a 9 or better on a card, I will not submit any card with any questions on any corner. If I am shooting for an 8 or better, those cards get submitted.
