question about authentic

I sent in a mantle and it came back in a card saver with 'evid of trim'.
I saw on ebay a slabbed card 'trimmed and authentic'.
I would rather have my card come back slabbed.
How does this happen?

You may have to note on the submission "if unable to grade please holder as authentic only"

I am not sure they do it for just any card though.

So I would have to resubmit the card to get it into a holder?
And maybe they don't do it for all cards?
This area seems a little grey.
I think all cards should at least be authenticated
(the 'a' in psa) and all cards sent in should be slabbed.
Slabbed it fake, authentic/trimmed, or a grade.
The same process for all cards.

What they should do and what they do, can be two entirely different things. Why not simply call customer service and see if they provide that service for the card you have? While they will 'authenticate' a 52 mantle, they may not 'authenticate' the one you have.

And yes the only way now (if they do in fact authenticate the one you have) is =for you to resubmit and pay again all the fees.

for the most part, it seems like PSA will provide this "authentic" grade only for vintage (pre-war) cards or hand cut cards (from panels for example). PSA also seems to grade some post war cards, such as a 52T Mantle as "auth" depending on the customer. Seems arbitrary and confusing to me.

An example would be this cert#90361904. If you look it up in the PSA database, you will see a grade of N0 trimmed. But, if you check out the link below, you will find a somewhat different story.

This is how the real world works. Lots of grey areas. People who do a large volume get better service and pricing in just about any business I can think of. SGC reportedly has much better service and may be an option for you. You may be able to get either company to holder your trimmed Mantle, but they may not want to perform a service for a single collector. You and I both think they should, but it is not how their business is run.

Pool if PSA won't slab it and you just want it slabbed and shown to be authentic instead of a reprint or a fake SGC will also slab trimmed cards. I bought a 35 chicle card I knew was short, sent it to them and now it's an SGC authentic instead of a raw card that may or may not be fake.

If you don't need it for a registry set, SGC might be what you need.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't want to spend anymore money
on my trimmed '63 Mantle. The authentic '63 Rose, which started me
on my 'how come ...?', ended for $200. So if my card came back slabbed,
it would have had some value but now it's too late.
So I learned that my pre-submission skills need to be beefed up
and maybe put that message on the submission form.

FYI SGC graded a whole bunch of commons authentic, I bought a lot of 30 lower graded SGC cards and I sold the 2 that were graded authentic
