1993 Topps Black Gold Winner Cards

Can someone explain the 1993 Topps Black Gold Winners? I think the deal was Topps would send you the set if you sent in the winner card, right? I also think they included a "redeemed" winner card along with the set. Does that mean that each winner card comes both redeemed and unredeemed? If so, which is which?

Below are two examples from my Will Clark collection. Note that one has "certified" in the lower right, while one does not. Should I be looking for each card with each variation?

Also, I have a Winner C picturing Will Clark, though I think this may be an error. Below left is my card, below right is a scan from eBay. Does anyone know who was really in the C set?

Then again, I also have a C/D winner card picturing Will.

So...can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Geez - player collectors are just plain nutty. Who gives a rat about the subtle minutae between obscure cards, anyway?

Sorry, Drew - just pokin' fun. You know I chase down the same crazy stuff as you, just not as much since your guy was a bit more popular than mine. I wish I had more to chase, to be honest.

Oh, as for answering your question, I got no clue. Neat stuff, though.

These winner cards kill me...I've never fully understood their magnitude. I really want a 1994 Black Gold ABCD winner...can't find one anywhere.

Have you seen this page? A very serious Frank Thomas collector seems to be having the same problem. (and it sucks, as there are TONS of player collectors all looking for the same card!)

Edit to say: the Thomas collector says the 94 A/B/C/D goes for over $50 ended auction.

Further edited to say: bunchObull, are you the guy that runs that Frank Thomas site?

No I'm not, but I'm a long time Thomas collector (since the age of 7) and I've assisted him (Lance) in solving some of the hobby mysteries surround Big Frank and other issues. He mentions you on his website actually.

Edited to say: The ABCD winner set typically goes for between $50-80 dollars, but that's redeemed with the set. I just want an unredeemed ABCD card, which still carries a heavy premium.

I just had all of these graded and I had to explain these to PSA. The cards that were in the packs had the rules and a place for your name and address. Once you mailed this in you received a set back of whatever you won plus another winner card but this one has the list of players on the back and says "certified" on the front of the card. The ABCD is the toughest for baseball but I found that the basketball AB is even more difficult. I have only found one of each of the 2 basketball AB winners in 13 years.
