Just for fun: Coin image editing video

Given the discussion about about photography methods, I thought I would
update my old thread about Photoshop editing from last year with something a little more timely.

Using CamStudio 2.0, an open source software tool for videotaping your desktop,
I created a video of going from raw camera images to the final product using Adobe Photoshop
CS2 for Windows. (I'd be interested in seeing other folks' videos of similar processes if you're
so inclined...)

Some notes:

The images used were not preprocessed or prepped in any way.

The bit depth of the color palette is a bit primative for the sake of file size,
and there is some artifacting in the video.

I have a lot of actions (macros) defined in Photoshop that help speed things up.
I also use a lot of keyboard shortcuts to do things and switch tools as opposed to going
to the menu and making selections, some steps may go by pretty quickly.

I normally work with a MUCH larger window size, but reduced it for the sake of
the video size. My desktop size is 1920x1200 pixels.

The video is real-time, so the total process of going from raw camera images to
final product is less than 5 minutes.

The video file itself is a bit over 40MB in size, so it takes a while to load. For some reason
it automatically restarts when done; not sure how to change that.

  • It's a neat idea, but I think it goes thru the steps too quickly for someone who does not already know how to do it. I think the step-by-step is much easier to follow because you can take your time understanding each step and even toggle between Photoshop and the instructions. I didn't take too long to download thru my DSL. I didn't time it, but it was 2 minutes or less.
