I went for a couple of hours today. It was a great show! Didn't get too much, but I still had a great time.

  • Hey guys, you may know. What does PSA charge for a same day submission at these shows and how long does it usually take? Thanks!!

I'am not sure but I think it was $20 dollars for two hour same day submission. I think. If no one else knows, I can tell you for sure tomorrow morning.
  • Was GAI grading service there?
  • JeremyDie1JeremyDie1 Posts: 2,383 ✭✭✭
I did not see them there. JSA had a little table with two guys there. Beckett was by itself in the front. PSA was on the other side in the front with the largest table of the three. I was surprised though to see alot of high end cards in alot of GAI holders.

I was there.. I agree.. beautiful stuff..just a little too much to take in.. I missed half of it I think...
from what I saw.. psa charged $30 for same day grading and like 80 for a 1-2 turn around...
beckett was there but that was it for grading...
some vendors had scary money in inventory... i can't wrap my brain around it..

I agree. One guy had 12 1952 topps Mantles, alot of 1951 Bowman Mantles, and just about every card in between. I could not believe the autographs and memorabilia some had. Some of them had thousands of autographs. Unreal.

He's the man!!! He by far had the largest vintage at the show. He had several tables.

This was a great show...lots of great stuff. The dealers I spoke with indicated it was good for them as well.

Levi still has all of those cards for a reason....
  • Went with a friend of mine. Had a great time. 5th time we have made the trip down from Madison. Its kinda brutal for me being a Cubs collector. Prices are are always jacked up for the hometown teams. I did get a nice Cubbies Majestic Jersey for $20. Can't beat that.

It's funny you mention that. I went to the show on Friday night and I always seem to walk from table to table with my head down looking at the cards. I came across a table with cards I wanted, looked up and saw the 707sportscards banner, and knew it wasn't worth asking. I just kept moving. Levi has cards I want but I have never needed one bad enough to pay his prices. Another always comes along at quite a bit less. You just have to wait for them some times.

I do agree his prices are extremly high. I have been collecting the 1933 Goudy Sport Kings and saw a Knute Rockne that was graded a PSA 3. SMR has a 4 at $300. I thought the price would be somewhere under $300 for it. He said he wanted $475.00 for a 3. Dont think so.

He has those cards because he buys high as well as sells high if its desirable. People go to him when they have something to sell. People also buy plenty from him. Who are they? People who have more money than they know what to do with and those who will pay what it takes to complete a set whether it be raw or registry. He does a killer business, even with those prices.
  • How was the show on sunday?

  • << <i>Levi still has all of those cards for a reason.... >>

I tried to haggle with him one time on a card I wanted. I remember pointing out that he was asking $1500 more than the highest book value I could find listed for the card. His response was something along the lines of "I don't care what some stinkin book says the card is worth". I ended up buying one two grades higher than Levi's and still paid a little less.

    awesome.

Got there at 9:00 AM so I could make the rounds and get back home for second halfs (halves?) of the early games. The place was pretty empty for the first hour or so. Lots of action at PSA and Beckett tables. PSA reslabbed a couple mislabeled cards of mine in just under three hours.

707's table was super-impressive. The prices there were as bad as everyone is saying, but something keeps these folks in business, right?? I actually thought that was the theme of the whole show - REALLY impressive cards but REALLY unreasonable prices. The whole time I was there, I kept having to remind myself that I can do way better online...buying and selling.

The only bargains imo were the 50's and 60's football. There seemed to be an abundance of raw vintage football in decent condition and most all of it could be had for 60% book.

There was a noticeable lack of baseball cards from 1972 - 2005. But as much as there was a lack of that range of years, there was an abundance of the very old and the very new. Modern game used stuff was practically being used as toilet paper in that room. I just don't get the appeal. I mean, you pull an ugly card that has a piece of Babe Ruth's sock and Lou Gehrig's scrotum and it has to be special and priceless, right?!? Not so. There is such a gigantic over-saturation of cards of that type. If you think your game used XYZ card is special, please attend one of these big shows. The experience could quickly erase your illusions.

It got pretty crowded around 11:00 AM, when the auto-lovers started streaming in. A bunch of cool players were scheduled but Carlton Fisk is the only one I saw.

I had no interest in vintage the last time I went to a big show. Now that I care about the cards that were issued before I was born, this show was a real eye-opener as to the amount of masterpieces there are to acquire. Lots of ooohs and ahhhhs, but not many good deals to be made. Unless these dealers loosen up their prices, I can't see the point in ever going back. Fun way to waste four hours, though.

I agree.. dont think I would ever go back.. so overpriced it was insane.. $10 to get in.. $11 to park...
not like vendors at these shows are ignorant to what they have and you can get a steal.. I was shocked at the vintage stuff and amazed at its beauty.. hard to imagine those 8's + haven't been trimmed at least a little to look like that.. I mean for 30-40 years they werent graded and in most cases sat in plastic pages at best.. I would love to know the percentage of this stuff that has been tweaked... just a bit..

I did pick up a awesome 63 jello al kaline in mint condition for $20.. can't wait to get this graded..

not too much post stuff so I was bummed.. mcavoy had a ton.. but was so over priced I couldnt even consider it..
he was selling stuff for 10 x what I can get it on ebay for.. but a super nice guy.. really liked him

I cant wait until the next show in Shaumburg next spring. Sundays show was great, and is the best time to go. I got alot of deals in the last hour of the show. Several cards I held off buying on Saturday were cut down on sunday. Special thanks to Brian @ D&A Card World!

is it big like this one?

$10 to get in a show of this size did not bother me at all. I drove in from Milwaukee looking for Packer HOF cards and some vintage HOF rookies. Spent $200 and got some great cards.

48 Bowman Ted Fristsch rookie EX $60
59 Topps Max McGee raw has 9 corners but 60/40 centering. Will submit with a prayer for a 9 $15
    50 Bowman Tobin Rote rookie $25, should grade a 5 or 6
68 Carol Dale, Bob Jeter and Donny Anderson for $2.00 each should grade 6 or 7
four or five NFL HOF from the '55 All American set for $6-$10 each. All will grade between 5's and 7's
A bunch of Ahman Green Jersey cards for $2 to $3 each.
100 count lot of Favre for $25

Over all I was very happy.

    10.00 isn't bad.

Hell it cost me nearly 50.00 to park and get into the National this summer with my 9 year old son.

    now THAT's what I call a ripoff.
  • OAKESY25OAKESY25 Posts: 4,726 ✭✭✭
I don't think $10 was unfair... I was just saying.. I just wasted $21 because there wasn't much to buy unless I wanted to spend 3-4 x
what it cost on ebay.. I am sure am sure there were deals to be had.. but if it was vintage baseball.. I didnt see them

    Troy,

You forgot to mention that 76 T FB pack that you bought and pulled a Payton RC!!!!!

And that you met up with me and GregM.

It was great to finally meet you. On my end my big buy, other than the subs that I dropped off, was 2 boxes of Ultra Pro savers!! But with what it would have cost in shipping I got into a show for free.

I am glad to hear that the next one will be in Schaumburg, closer to my home and plenty of parking, which will probably be cheaper if not free.

Had a good time - I actually prefer the shows held in Rosemont as that's easier for me to get to. image
