Wife likes baby busties

Well, like I always do when I make a new purchase, I show my wife the coin and try to justify the expense. Cheap coins are far easier. Most of the time the reaction is "that's nice", or, "you paid what"?, accompanied by a quick glance at the coin and a dirty glance at me. But not today. Went to the local BM and purchased a beautiful originally toned 1833 5c in a first generation Anacs holder. The coin is graded AU50, but is actually a 53-55 I believe. The coin exibits tremendous eye appeal with royal blue, rust red and yellow toning, 85% dark coin. You all know the color pattern. It is a LM9 die marriage which is common, but interesting. Also, there is a small interesting void on the cheek. I handed her the coin, and her first reaction was "that's really cute", then she was holding it under different light sources to view all the different colors, remarking how nice it was. Also thought it was very cool because of the age. Quite an unexpected reaction.
Yesterday I ordered a $$$ marco lens and a light box for my camera. I won't even attempt to show off this coin until I get the right equipment to photgragh it, just too small. I'll post pictures sometime later, after I learn to use the lens. BTW I paid no premium for the color. I know someone will ask.
What a fun, cheap coin to own.....a 180 from what I normally buy. I know where's there is a nice AU 1830 5c with similar toning, never viewed the coin closely, but now just might have to have a looksy.

May I say that both you and your wife have impeccable taste in coins, and I sincerely hope that this new acquisition will mark the beginning of a very satisfying and educational journey for you both. By all means, do buy that other 1830 half dime you mentioned. You may decide to collect a simple date set, consisting of just nine (9) coins, none of them difficult, or you may elect to assemble a complete "Red Book" set of fourteen (14) different 'varieties'. And once you have been bitten by the bug, you will likely begin the long and fascinating task of seeking all ninety-two (92) die marriages, as outlined in "Federal Half Dimes 1792-1837" by Russell Logan and John McCloskey. Congratulations, and please keep us posted on your progress. You are indeed fortunate to have a wife who finds beauty in the early Bust coin designs, and perhaps she will join you in your quest.
