1933/2 Australia Penny

Got a nice surprise sorting through a bulk lot of foreign coins. I'm assuming this is the KM23 1933/2. I think it is going to spend the night in acetone though. Any thoughts on grade or humor me on confirming the overdate.

Thanks,
Jeff

  • Either you have really good eyes or you look at everything with a glass of some sort... Nice find!

I've never seen one in person, but that is exactly like the pictures in the Renniks catalogue of what a 33/32 overdate looks like! Good eyes to spot that one! image

As for grade, it's got Fine details (that's according to the Australian standard, so call it an American VF) but you'd have to discount for the tape damage; I'm not sure acetone has the power to undo that.

Still an excellent find in a bulk lot - that same Renniks catalogue lists the overdate at AU$100 in Fine.

I didn't put it under the glass until I saw the entry in Krause when I was picking out the 50 cent and over things.

Nice 728, only a 654 last night... and we won't talk about Tuesday's drinking league image

  • I listed this one on eBay a couple of years ago- it sold for about $50.00.
