How long does a Registered Mail package stay at a post office before it is returned as unclaimed?
I sent a Registered Mail package on Tuesday, and I just checked the status. I received the following message:
"Label/Receipt Number: RAXXXXXX
Status: Notice Left
We attempted to deliver your item at 8:15 AM on November 16, 2007 in FAR HILLS, NJ 07931 and a notice was left. It can be redelivered or picked up at the Post Office. If the item is unclaimed, it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.
Label/Receipt Number: RAXXXXXX
Detailed Results:
Notice Left, November 16, 2007, 8:15 am, FAR HILLS, NJ 07931
Arrival at Unit, November 16, 2007, 8:14 am, FAR HILLS, NJ 07931

Does anyone know how long a post office will hold the registered mail package for delivery once a notice is left? I was curious what the standard procedure is. Or as someone on these boards indicated, will my package be incinerated?
