The great Joe Nuxhall passes away.

This is incredibly sad for me. I spent many years of my childhood growing up listening to Marty and Joe. I can hear him now shouting "Get Outta Here!" over Marty when one of the Reds would hit a home run. By all accounts a kind man who had a remarkable life in baseball.

"This is the old left hander rounding third and heading for home."

RIP, Joe.

Stay classy,

  • Ron,

We must have grown up in the same area... some of my greatest memories as a kid was listening to my transitor radio while laying in bed at night to the Reds games in the mid to late 70's....

...........Marty and Joe, the best play by play team ever in my opinion..........

I'm going to post a few of his cards I have tonight in memory. I haven't listened to the Reds in years but was a little choked up when I heard the news today.

That reminds me of a joke I heard a long time ago:

Two friends are both HUGE baseball fans. They make a deal with each other that whoever dies first will come back and tell the other guy what baseball in heaven is like.

Time passes and one, unfortunately, dies. As promised, he comes back and tells his friend about baseball in heaven.

"I've got good news and bad news for you. The good news is that baseball in heaven is awesome. The grass is always perfectly cut and green. The parks are all gorgeous and the stands always full. All the greats are there and there's always a game."

His friend replies, "That sounds incredible, what could be bad about that?"

    "You're starting tomorrow!"

    I'll start it off:

  • Joe was my great uncle..although i was only able to meet him twice because my dad had a blowout with that side of the family..wonderful guy and a really sad story.

life's a garden baby, dig it!
  • Joe Nuxhall was my Harry Carey, I feel asleep many a night when I was a kid to the static of an old AM radio trying to pick up the signal of WLW out of Cincy. It is very ironic that earlier this week I was looking through autographed cards on Mickey's website and happened to put a 58 Joe Nuxhall in my cart, this morning when I heard the news I went and bought it.
You will be missed Nuxie ! Thanks for the memories..............
