Should I crack and regrade this?? NEW

image

50-50 all around with perfect corners. Do you think they just didnt want to give out a 9 on this high dollar card?
I may send it to SGC I think they would give it a SGC 92-96

What would you grade this?

And this one

It may be my eyes, but the upper right and left don't look perfect.

Having said that, the card is AWESOME looking....and it may be the scanner that makes the corners look less than perfect. image

  • Wow, that an awesome card.

Yeah, I'd resubmit. Is that top left corner just something wrong with the scan?

  • I'd get out a 10X loupe and work over the corners before I did anything. The UL corner looks soft to me.
There are much worse things in life than a dead centered 8.

I did, its just the scan, that corner is straight!

from the scan looks like it will be tough to get into a 9 but since you bought it cheap why not send it in 5 or 6 times and see what happens

Strong 8 but not a 9 with that one corner. But you can always try! =P

Examine the corners (from the front and the back). If they don't come to a near perfect point, you'll never see a 9. Even the slightest touch will put it in the 8 range.

If you think every thing checks out, crack/resub a few times. I'm sure there's a big difference in price between 8s and 9s for this card.

or 375 but I think 475, high book but its a killer
  • It will never get a 9.. That upper right corner looks worse than the UL to me.
  • I have never cracked and re-subbed
But every crack you do, do you not run the risk of degrading the card?
Inadvertantly damaging it? And in the end making it worse?
Everytime that card is touched it is risked being damaged.

Ive turned several Pre 1972 Hofers from 8s to 9s. 1972 Munson, 1 common 8 to a 10. and many many more

I would think an 8 would be AWESOME grade for a 1958. I mean, seriously, how many cards from the 1950s do you see around in NRMT-MT, raw or graded?

If I was you I would crack and resubmit at a show and pay the big fee for same day grading. I have found that to be the easiest way to get bumps.

It looks like it got the proper grade to me. Can't see it getting a 9 with the corners being the way it is.

That blanks appears to have a few specs of color loss and (maybe) a stain on the bottom border. If so, 8.

So you post asking if you should regrade. Folks say no because the top corners aren't very sharp (which I agree with given the scan). Then you proceed to explain how you have done the crack and resubmit thing a ton of times with lots of success. So basically you just wanted everyone to agree with you...nice.

A bump could happen but seriously don't argue with people giving you their opinion when you asked for it.

You describe the koufax with 50/50 centering all around and 4 perfect corners. Why would you be happy with a 9, shouldnt it be a 10?
  • MorgothMorgoth Posts: 3,950 ✭✭✭
If you are so sure just submit it until you are satisfied or it isn't economically viable anymore. This is how dealers make alot of money and crappy 9's get on the market image

  • I think the Koufax is definetly a 9! However, I don't think its safe to crack a card out of a PSA holder. I know cracking a card from a BGS holder is safe, but definetly not with PSA's holders.

Good luck to whatever you deceide to do, but I wouldn't crack thatimage
  • You know the statement you made about them not giving you a high grade because its a high dollar card got me thinking. What if they could make some kind of gadget that can grade a card without seeing which card is it, LOL.

They would not be able to see the image, and name of the player but only be able to see any surface damage, corners, edges, and centering! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, sorry, but you just got me thinkingimage
