Non-genuine 09-S followup: These folks are classy sellers!

Here's a bit of follow-up regarding one of the two raw Lincolns I purchased on EBay and returned last week. The husband-wife sellers of the 1909-S (no VDB) received the coin that I mailed back to them (along with a note detailing why I was convinced the mint mark was added), and they e-mailed me this note today:

Hi Dave. We got the coin today, and have to agree with you 100%. You taught us a good lesson, as counterfeiting with medium-priced coins is something we don't worry much about. We buy about 99% of our coins from dealers we trust, but I guess we can't take their efforts to weed things out for granted. This one hits fairly hard in the pocketbook, so we'll have to be more watchful from here on. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your understanding. Hope you can find an 09-S that you like. We have your check in an envelope, and we plan to have it in tomorrow's mail.
Best regards,
Mike & Maureen Martin

Pretty classy seller response in the face of what is for them a crummy situation, eh?

I'm positively uplifted!

It appears that your original assessment was spot on. It'll be interesting to see what the other seller - the rude one - does.

  • Yeah, good for them, and good for you to let us know about their classy behavior.
