Brown Ike???

Well we've all heard of the "Blue Ike" UNC. dollars. Many moons ago during my early years of coin collecting, a coin dealer told me that the reason it was called the Blue Ike was because of the blue colored packaging. Sometime later a friend of mine told me it was called that because of the blue colored US Mint tag (or whatever it's called). Either way worked for me. I was just a kid, both things were blue, so be it.

Then we have the proof Ike dollars in the big brown boxes. In the last few weeks I've seen 3 or 4 various online items that refer to the proof Ikes as "Brown Ike".

I've never heard this before. Just wondering if anyone has.

Also, just in case this is a moronic question, I want to make it known that I purchased 5 of each year of the UNC. and the Proof Eisenhower Dollars in 1979 when the SBA Dollar went into circulation. I really haven't done anything with them (not even look at them) since I bought them (almost 30 years ago image ). I just recently started opening some of my old fire safe boxes and started sorting. I'm finding coins that I don't even remember buying. image

So if this does turn out to be dumbest question of the year (image ), please cut this old Numismatist (I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've called myself that image ) some slack. image
I have all kinds of coins, tokens and a few medals. I'm not a big time Stack's Auction collector. I don't collect for investment or value. When I see a coin I think is neat, I grab it. I collect a few coins by year and mint, like Lincoln and Canadian Cents, Westward Journey Nickels, State Quarters, Presidential Dollars and 2 or 3 others. I have some Proof Sets and Uncirculated Sets. I've been collecting for 34 years, so I have a little bit of everything.

PS.
I LIKE IKEs!

Not a dumb question at all!

The Blue Ike is called that because of the Blue Mint Packaging

The Brown Ike is called that because of the Brown Mint Packaging

Its been this way for years.

One more thing, target toned IKEs are called that because of the type of toning.

Peacock Ikes are called that because of their strong toning.

Hey thanks a million for this info! Just recently been looking into toning and trying to learn all I can.

Are these 2 types of toning for Ikes only?

Well, the peacock toning is usually mentioned specifically for IKEs as can be referenced by this thread.
Notice the term PKOK in the thread? Thats because the censor software has a difficult time with the last 4 letters of peacock so unless you know the code, you can't type that word. So...they use the term PKOK.

Target toning is used for any coin that tones in concentric circles of different colors and is not specific to IKEs. I just threw that in there.
