Question about User's Icon...

DoubleEagle59DoubleEagle59 Posts: 8,375 ✭✭✭✭✭
I would like to change my User Icon tomorrow (as I believe it is the day to do so) . I've tried previous months but was unable to.

Can someone tell me how to change pics?

Thanks,

On icon upload day, your profile update page gets modified with an "Upload your own icon" with a browse button to select.
Just select that browse button and upload your preprepared icon.

The trick is in getting it to the right size both in physical measurement and in byte size.

    From another thread:

<< <i>the image you have saved on your computer must be no greater than 100 x 100 pixels in size, and the filesize cannot exceed 10 kilobytes. >>

    So get to work!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

In answer to your questions, the 15th of each month is Icon Upload Day. You will need to have your new avatar picture saved to your computer, and it must be no greater than 100 x 100 pixels in size, with a filesize of no greater than 10 kilobytes, I believe.

As 19Lyds said, your Profile page will have an "Upload Custom Author Icon" option on Upload Day. At any other time, it will not be there.

Usually the curtain is open during business hours Pacific time. If Icon Upload Day happens to fall on a weekend or holiday, they usually open the curtain on the working day just before or after. Tomorrow, November 15, happens to be a weekday, though, so as far as I know, it's business as usual.

  • I'm about to load a new icon/avatar too. I thought 200x200 was what we needed to shoot for? Isn't it?

edit: Aha! I just looked at my current one, it is 100x100...

    "Upload Custom Author icon"

I'm not seeing this anywhere... am I too early?

    Yep! By just a bit.

Sometimes CarolJ will post a note indicating icon uploads are active.

Photobucket has a "create avatar" function now, so that might make things easier. image

Athena, with a name like "Athena", why do you have some Pez chick as an avatar, instead of a lovely ancient Athenian coin with the portrait of your namesake, hmm?

SMART people collect lovely historical pieces of gold and silver, not modern plastic pop culture. image

(Not that there's anything wrong with the Pez chick, of course, but when I see a forum member with the name "Athena", I get all sorts of visions in my head, and most if not all of them have to do with tetradrachms and staters...)

PS- just after trying to armtwist you into changing your icon to a piece of ancient silver, I decided to practice what I preach. Sure enough, the curtain's open. Time to load 'em if you've got 'em, folks!

How do you like my new Otho? image

This may sound silly but I have let my membership run out, can I still change my icon?

If so, I am trying to add a personal icon but can`t seem to delete the previous saved icon, why? image

    Please help me image

Your membership with the forum doesn't run out. image You can't delete the old one either, just upload a new one.

Well, I've tried for about a half hour now, unable to load my new icon. It's 98 x 96 pixels (which is under the limit) but the filesize is 10008 bytes, just a few bytes over the limit. I guess that's why it won't upload. I've tried to reduce it but to no avail.

Oh well, another month of good ole 'Johhny Bower' (the greatest Leaf goalie of all time).

Dieabolical, by "profile page" we mean that tab at the top frame that says "profile", not the little "spectacles" icon that leads to your public profile. But if you already knew that, and don't see the upload box, maybe it is a browser issue. I have no idea?
