Would be a curious thing...how would Yanks fans greet him at the beginning of the season? My guess would be a mix of boos and cheers. If he does this without Boras then there will be more cheers. If he signs for less money than there will definately be more cheers.
This was actually spoken about on Mike and Mike in the morning...about if ARod wants to be on the Yanks then he will have to negotiate without Boras. Some dude they interviewed said that he thought it would be ARod at 3B for the Yanks. We'll see.
He did make forward progress getting his head straight during the regular season. Now he has to get it straight for the post season.
Personally, I have mixed feelings about having ARod back. Love the season production but he needs to not have to be in the spotlight all the time and be more of a team guy....yes, like Jeter.
as a yankee fan, i will personally BOOO THE BALLS off AROD , if he is in a yankee uni or not....
when he even comes close to doing what Pujols has in October, then Arod will earn my respect.....
The Yankees were not unreasonable with their first offer. I can understand that they did not want to lose that $20+ million subsidy from Texas and wanted to lock him in a multi-year deal immediately.
I never believed Boras saying that things were looking good and that other teams were expressing interest. I never believed that garbage. No team is going to pay $350 Million, so Boras was using a very old trick and insulting our intelligence as if we were blinded by his bluff.
I can't forgive the Yanks for what they did to Torre and letting Mattingly get away like that, but I applaud in how they are handling the A-Rod situation. They should offer him what they think is right based on the money they are losing from Texas. I doubt the Yankees can give an insulting contract to A-Rod. He will be the highest paid player for multiple years. That is fair, and some would say too generous.

All he got in response to unclassy announcement was the sound of crickets chirping.
So in the meantime, he's on his hands and knees BEGGING the Yanks to take him back.
Bravo!
<< <i>Man, the Yankees are being played for a fool here! If this is true that they are even talking to ARod about returning, then they're the laughing stock of the league right now. What happened to all that talk about them not talking to ARod at all if he opted out? The spineless, gutless Yankees management and ownership deserve the spineless, gutless ARod. Match made in heaven. >>
Per the article, they would sign him for LESS than market value.
Maybe 3 to 5 years for less than $20MM per?
That would be awesome
<< <i>What market value? $350MM over 10 was never the market for him and everyone knew it. Except I guess the Yankees. That was never the true market value for a 32 yr old that peaked last year. So now that they're seriously considering signing him again after they emphatically stated that they wouldn't if he opted out is hilarious. And on top of that, Boras has them thinking that they're still getting a bargin. Wow. >>
I'm not saying $350 was the market. The source said they may consider signing him below market... Which, in my opinion, would be anywhere between $13 to $17MM/Year.
Also, according to A-Rod's personal website (Link), it was A-Rod coming back on his knees:

After spending time with Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization.
Prior to entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees' ownership. We know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and happiness.
As a result, I reached out to the Yankees through mutual friends and conveyed that message. I also understand that I had to respond to certain Yankees concerns, and I was receptive and understanding of that situation.
Cynthia and I have since spoken directly with the Steinbrenner family. During these healthy discussions, both sides were able to share honest feelings and hopes with one another, and we expect to continue this dialogue with the Yankees over the next few days. >>
Gem are we seeing your emotional side? Any ways, you can always bench Arod for the play-offs!

Ridiculous! The 8th spot will be fine

<< <i>I don't think the Yankees are spineless in this. They said from the beginning that they didn't want to negotiate with A-Rod if he opts out because that would delete the over $20 million from Texas (that was their concern). If they can sign him for below market value, it will make up for the loss of the extra revenue. It appears the Yankees are in control of this one--it is going to be according to their terms, not Boras or A-rod, so there is no spineless phenomenon to speak of. Besides, it was A-Rod's idea to buy time to see where Rivera, Posada and Pettite were going. Well, the Yankees have made great offers to all three. >>
As much as the Yankees would like to spin this into them coming out ahead, that just isn't the case. Let's review:
-Before the opt-out period, the Yankees offer 5 or 6 years at $30MM per ($150-$180MM total)
-ARod opts-out anyway
-ARod comes back with hat in hand
-Yankees tell him ok, but Boras can't lead negotiations but can be in the room
-Yankees then offer 10!! years at $27MM per ($270MM total!)
-Boras and ARod make Yankees feel like they're getting a bargain
I see people throwing around "market value" like anyone has a clue what the true market value really is. Boras wants everyone to believe that $35MM a year is ARod's market value so now $27MM a year sounds like a sweet deal. But the reality is that Boras is about to get his client his raise, above his already ridiculous $25MM/year contract. AND make it appear to the Yankees and their fans that they are getting the "sweetheart hometown discount". Pure genius! But what they're really getting is a bloated contract that will be on their books until ARod is 42. Somehow Boras managed to double the length of the contract from the Yankees' previous offer. But of course, he isn't even involved in these negotiations.
