VAM question - Help please...

I was at a shop today, and the dealer had a decent 1879 Morgan (it's raw, I'd say MS 62) with nice rainbow colors. He has it labled as a
VAM 6 with 8 tailfeathers. When I asked about his VAM 6 designation, he said simply because it has 8 tailfeathers. I noticed some slight doubling on the date, lower left star and even more signifigant doubling on the left wreath.
All I found out about VAM 6 for that date is doubling on the 7 & 9.
Anyway, I've been thinking about the coin all day. It has some really colorful rainbow toning front and back along the perimeters. He's asking $130 and I can probably pick it up for $100.
Obviously that's way overpriced unless the VAM variety is significant. Any thoughts, suggestions or guesses to the actual VAM would be appreciated.
