What ever happened to Mark Murphy?

I was out of cards from 1999-2006. Remember him having everything, just went to his site and I think I have more wax in my basement then he has on his site... Is he a player anymore in the unopened game?

    Roger

Do you remember he had a major fire a few years ago?

It just seems like he's never recovered?

He used to have full page ads in SCD - week after week.

To be honest - his personality is very dry and not much fun to talk to on the phone.

No, I didnt hear about any fire.

Was it a fire fire.. or a insurance fire..?

I spent some money with him back in 97-98.. I know what you mean about the dry personality... He wanted to be famous and I think he forgot
    he was selling baseball cards..

When he had griffey for the private signing I think it got to his head a little.

Isn't Mark Murphy located in southern California now? I thought he was in the San Diego area.

He was (or is) in San Diego, but is pretty much irrellevant in the pack world now. Steve Hart is much more the main man than Murphy ever was.
Last I heard of Murphy he was pushing some penny golf stock in an SCD ad. Don't know if the SEC was very happy about it.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

Murphy's ads in the 90's were amazing.

Not sure if you guys remember, but in a typical SCD, with 150-200 pages, his ads and product were very unique. He was doing probably...2, 3 million a year in revenue at his peak? His passion for wax came through. He had a few competitors, but he was pretty much king of the moutain.

Then after, 98, 99? Dave and Adams were getting big. Then Steve Hart now.

I still see his ad's in Tuff Stuff selling his Unopened Pack Price Guide. I believe he lives in San Diego. I also had the pleasure of seeing his complete set of un-opened Topps Packs in Asheville, North Carolina.
Still wish I had those 1994 UpperDeck S-P Baseball Boxes that I sold him. If you sold him something, he was good and the money was in the mail.

I hear he's on a worldwide hunt searching for more Christmas racks
You recall the great investment they were supposed to be
Today they are seling for 15¢ on the dollar for what they originally sold for
To bad you can't short sports cards like stocks
    I'd be rich

    I'm afraid not.

The fires and the X mas rack debacle were kind of the nails in the coffin.

He had a really cool business though for awhile. Now we've got the cult of the BBCE and our new wax leader.
