One Down, One to Go

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

  • As predicted although that's a huge sum of money to pay for a 36 year old catcher's legs. Then again they had to have him. Same for Mariano.

reading that makes it seem like a good idea for Boston to re-sign a younger, non-catcher to a three year deal. Thirteen million a year to catch at age 40, we'll see if Posada can do it.

Well, if in 4 years Posada is giving them the numbers of the NEXT best FA out there, then they got themselves a good deal. None of the current FA's even come close to Posada's offensive numbers. Plus, his defensive numbers are pretty darn good. Add knowing how to call a good game and how to handle a pitching staff then I think he got everything he deserved. Im thrilled to see him stay a Yankee. Lets us know that not everyone is in agreement on abandoning ship.

I fully expect MO to come back too, especially with Posada resigning. They offered Rivera a nice chunk of change too. He'll listen to other teams but in the end, its all about business (and those are even Rivera's words) and Yanks will do what it takes to bring him back. All that will happen is that other teams will drive up the price...both sides know and understand this.

    He was a must resign.
  • I agree, he was a must resign. With all of our young arms coming up, we need an experianced leader behind the plate to help guide them. Even if he doesn't post another year offensively like last (his best ever BTW) he is still worth every penny of this contract just for the leadership he will provide our young pitchers.
  • <<According to multiple reports, Rivera is sitting on a three-year, $45 million contract that will keep him with the Yankees>>

Yankees waiting on Rivera's response - Free-agent closer reportedly gets three-year, $45 million offer

Can't see Mariano turning down $45 million. No other team is probably going to offer Mo as much for 3 years, maybe not even 4.
