1943 DDO Lincoln..........................................

Went to a local coin shop recently and purchased a circulated 1943 steel cent set with P/D/S mintmarks. Since my youngest son (7) has never seen them, I thought it would be cool to purchase and "educate" him. When I got home, I immediately noticed that the P was a DDO (very obvious to the naked eye). For a circ the coin is in pretty good shape (xf-au). When I researched the coin I noticed that PCGS does not include this variety in any of the registry sets or price guides. Why is this?

  • Not having a cherrypicker's guide handy, I can't say for sure, but maybe it's not a DDO? Maybe strike doubling? Mechanical doubling? Or maybe even double struck?

  • That sounds probable as the doubling only occurs on the date and "in god we trust". In that respect the term "DDO" I used may be an over statement. Any other opinions................................

PCGS does not recognize a lot of real numismatic varieties.
Now if it was a Buffalo with a silly die crack or a A, B, C or D
or some other ridiculous edge lettering issue on a modern coin well then
    it would be recognized.........image
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
