Neat coin. I am surprised that a later date coronet half eagle could be so worn.

i am not so surprised considering i see coin banks that accepted
half eagles as one of the slots. that tells me people did use them,
saved them, and spent them.

but that is just my impression. the half eagle was always the
work horse for the common man when it came to gold.

most of the low grade common dates may have been melted?

At the recent high those were buyable for $215. Now with the dip probably back under $200.
Maybe at the next peak.
