Does anyone bid in major auctions by snail mail anymore

I was looking at the latest Stack's catalog with the envelope and bid sheet and it struck me looking at it how outdated and
old fashioned the concept of filling out a bid sheet and mailing it in seemed these days.

I'm sure people still do this. You'd be surprised by how many folks, esp. older ones, don't have net access.
  • I did for the Bullowa sales.

  • I was watching the live bidding on Stack's last night and there are a surprising number of mail in bids. When the mail bid form falls out of my Stack's catalog, it just goes into the trash. But there are a lot of folks who don't like or don't want to utilize the Net for placing their bids.

We may forget since this is an online forum and we've embraced the online age here, but there are a lot of "old school" long-time collectors out there, and I have no doubt quite a few of them prefer "the old-fashioned ways" of collecting.

There's probably a lot more of them than we realize.
  • I use the bid sheets when bidding. I like to create a paper trail.

I could bid online but if I'm not in the auction to snipe something then I set my bid, write it in and send it off. Sure it costs me the postage but I'll survive...image

I do. I much prefer the "bid what I want and forget it without anyone knowing it" over "place a max bid on-line and watch people bump it."
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Not much choice on a "mail bid" auction.
