Can anyone help me ID this Greek Imperial?

The following coin is 16mm in diameter and shows the bust of a Roman Emperor on the obverse and a veiled bust on the reverse.

I can't make out most of the inscription and I don't think I can post here in Greek fonts, but what I can read of the inscription is as follows:

Obverse: -, alpha, iota, omicron, delta, rho....
Reverse: -, iota, phi, lambda, lambda

  • That is a pretty interesting coin, Wish i knew, I'm a little confused as to what's head's or tail's. The reverse look's like Christ, Any chance that it's Herod on the obverse.

From your translation it sound's like a fraternity............image Good luck, and best wishe's, Any chance of googleing (Sp.) each word??????

I am sure it is not Herod. It looks to me like it must be a Roman Emperor and I assume the figure on the reverse is some god. The holder it was in said it was from Cappadocia, but I don't think that is correct.

Found it. The obverse word is "KAICAP" - Kaisar or Caesar, the emperor's title. Typing KAICAP FIL into the Wildwinds Partial Inscription Search came up with this coin as the number 1 hit:
City of Flaviopolis, in the region of Cilicia, Emperor Domitian. Obverse: bust of Domitian. Reverse: bearded and veiled bust of Cronus, god of time. Not listed in Sear.

This coin is actually dated: ETOYC ZI translates to Year 17. Flaviopolis was founded in 73 AD, so Year 17 corresponds to 89-90 AD.

    Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, "Meditations"

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD. B)

The portrait in the top picture yelled "Domitian" out to me right away, even before I scrolled down to see that Sapyx had apparently solved the mystery.
