  • Mansfield-Arten is my first guess (German state). I will take a look and see if I can ID it completely later on this evening. I just thought I would toss that out there for starters in case someone has a book handy and can look it up for you before I get a chance...

Edited to add: I forgot to ask... What's the size of it?

I was taking auction pictures today for my side-job on some different items and he showed this to me, so I don't have it in hand. It's at least US Silver Dollar size, if not a bit larger if that helps. I was guessing a Thaler/2 Thaler of some sort. He said see if I can figure out what it is and make him an offer if I liked it, just don't want to embarrass myself on it.

It looks like a Mansfeld DAV#6962 - 1626 AK. If this is correct, my Krause has it at VG $50, F $125, and VF $175. I would grade that one closer to VG than F due to the obverse. I'll see what others think.
  • I agree, The KM# is 55 (one thaler) but the abbreviations for the legend doesn't quite match for the one listed but that is not unheard of when it says varieties exist... The prices are the same in the Standard catolog of German coins 2nd edition but I have no idea how many years old that is now 10 or so I think...

PS- I've wanted to ask before StrikeOutXXX, now I see an added picture of 300... You a bowler?

Thanks all. Don showed me a similar one at a coin show we met at in the spring, and thought they were neat then. I'll see if he was looking to sell it in the $50 range or not.

Rickc300 - You nailed it. Although one team we have shirts that says "I'm on a drinking team who goes bowling" and the other league I try a bit harder without as much beer. Not surprisingly, I average about 10 less on the drinking team image

Rickc300's attribution seems pretty right on. Issued under Volrat VI, Wolfgang III and Iohann Georg. The reverse fields behind the horseman look extensively tooled/smoothed. I'd say the $50.00 range is about right for this thaler considering the damage.
